Double negative?

Postby Brus » 2012-06-06, 16:47

I thought I understood the Afrikaans double negative, but ...

In the song "Pretoria", Lianie May sings "Ek vergeet nooit jou naam".

Why is it not "Ek vergeet nooit jou naam nie"?

Because it wouldn't scan properly otherwise?

You can away with a lot of things in song lyrics that wouldn't be common in ordinary speech.
