I was wondering if any of you guys knew of a website that has lyrics to Afrikaans songs. I learn a lot of my vocabulary through songs (I can't stand learning from lists) and its easier to learn through songs if you have the words in front you :) To be specific, I'm looking for "Sê my hoe" by Monique, "Jy kan my nie vang nie" also by Monique and "Wat ek dink" by Corsette. Those are the only three songs I have in Afrikaans so far. Thanks for any help!

I don't know those songs (the titles are familiar, though) but I can recommend you some good ones - Tyd om te Trek, Die Kaplyn and De La Rey (all sung by Bok van Blerk and available as music videos on YouTube) come to mind. I could give you the lyrics for those if you like - they're all good songs with meaning, and De La Rey was quite a cultural anthem for a while there. :) (Relates to the Boer War.)

Geen probleem nie! :) By the way, should I post the lyrics here, or send them to you by personal message?

Here is fine. And if you have any other recommendations of Afrikaans singers, let me know (I know that gets asked a lot around here, so if their is another thread for this, sorry).

Sure. :) And it's no problem. The thread for music and poetry is actually here, so you can always use that in future. Still, it's not a problem.

As for other Afrikaans singers, well, it probably depends on which music genres you like. I'm not very clued-up on our singers, but I can always ask my brother, who has quite an extensive playlist. I do recommend Juanita du Plessis though, from what I have heard of her, which admittedly isn't much.

Tyd om te Trek

Vers 1:

Want as jy vra, moes jy vra, maar jy't my gesê
Van jou 'wyse plan'; is dit wat jy wou hê?
Daar's geen plek vir jou hier; jy sê dis tyd om te trek!

Verse 2:

Refrein

Die Kaplyn

Vers 1:

Net een slag toe was jou lewe verby

Refrein 1:

Roep jy na my?
Roep jy my terug na die Kaplyn, my vriend?
Deur die jare het die wêreld gedraai
Toe ons jonk was hoe sou ons dit kon raai?
Soek jy na my?
Soek jy my nou in die stof en jou bloed?
Jy't gesê jy hoor hoe God na jou roep
Toe's dit als verby...

Vers 2:

Na al hierdie jare
Vêr verlore dryf ons rond in ons dade
Net soldate leef met grense se skade
Hoe kan ons verstaan?
Want daai bos vreet ons spore
In die donker bos was broeders gebore
Net een slag toe was jou lewe verby...

Refrein 2:

Roep jy na my?
Roep jy my terug na die Kaplyn my vriend?
Deur die jare het die wêreld gedraai
Toe ons jonk was hoe sou ons dit kon raai?
Waar is jy nou?

En by daardie mure
Staan ek vir ure

Maar waar's jou naam nou, my vriend?

Refrein 2

En by daardie mure
Staan ek vir ure
En by daardie mure
Staan ek vir ure...

I know a couple hip-hop singers. The most popular is of course Die Antwoord(though they usually rap in a mix of Afrikaans and English) , and Jack Parow, than there is Fokofpolisiekar, a punk/rock band.. And that's all I know actually. :D

Nice, if I remember correctly some of my friends like Die Antwoord. :) I haven't heard them myself, though (not really a hip-hop listener). Polisiekar and Jack Parow have less wonderful reputations though, unfortunately, they like keeping things dirty >.< although Polisiekar does have one or two songs that are okay, neither they nor Parow are hearable if you understand what they're saying ^^;;

Yeah, they are pretty good :)

My mom and grandmother thought me some of the South African culture and folk songs, enough to understand "Kooler Box".

It was meant like: "het is verschrikkelijk zul je bedoelen".
I don't like it at all, hehe.

Here are two songs with lyrics, I don't know if they're 100% right, but they are pretty okay, I think.

Alleen Na Desember - 4Hoekige3Kant

Die dood is ons gewaarborg!
My gevoelens verander met seisoene.
Die winter was so koud.

Sê my ja, sê my ja,
sodat ek hier kan inpas.
Sê my ja, sê my ja,
is daar iewers waar ek in pas?
Sê my ja, sê my ja,
sodat ek hier kan inpas.
Sê my jaaaaaa is daar iewers waar ek in pas?

Alles leuns waarmee ek my aandag verkry.
dieselfde storie vasgekeer.

Sê my ja, sê my ja,
sodat ek hier kan inpas.
Sê my ja, sê my ja,
is daar iewers waar ek in pas?
Sê my ja, sodat ek hier kan inpas.
Sê my jaaaaaa, is daar iewers waar ek in pas?

Oh oh oh oh ...
Oh oh oh oh ...

Sê my ja, sê my ja,
sodat ek hier kan inpas.
Sê my ja, sê my ja,
is daar iewers waar ek in pas?
Sê my ja, sodat ek hier kan inpas.
Sê my jaaaaaa, is daar iewers waar ek in pas?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alleen Na Desember - Gemaklik verskrik

Onthou jy laat in die aande hoe ek skelm jou hand vas hou.
Hou net, hou net hierdie ritme daar.
So gemaklik verskrik soms deurmekaar gepluk.

Ons soen het oopgegaan my tyd was verkeerd
As ons tyd kon maak sou ons tyd kon keer.

Tussen duisend mense sien jy my raak. (Ek staan net daar, ek staan net daar)

Ons soen het oopgegaan my tyd was verkeerd
As ons tyd kon maak sou ons tyd kon keer.

Ek kan dit nie, (ek kan dit nie),
gestraand was nie 'n droom gewees nie.
Ek kan dit nie, (ek kan dit nie),
gestraand was nie 'n droom gewees nie.

Ons soen het oopgegaan my tyd was verkeerd
As ons tyd kon maak sou ons tyd kon keer.

Yeeaah!
(Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh ...)

I'm looking for the lyrics of "Waar lê jy venaand!", "Aan jou van my", "Die coach se speech" and "liewe ouers" all by Robbie Wessels and also "Hosh tokalosh" by Jack Parow.
It would be great if someone could post the lyrics here!
