that is a good website, indeed..

but i joined it over a year ago, and nothing has really been updated in that time...

i had tried a few of the books for afrikaans, (TY and colloquial) but neither were that great..

it is difficuklt to find books outside of south africa...so after all, maybe going there is the best idea! :wink:

ha! If i could, i would, alas.... 8)

I had a friend visit there a few years ago, and she brought me back a great dictionary and workbook in afrikaans...

it is a shame that these resources are near-impossible to find!

ek wens jy kon maar fokof. hou asb op om voor te gee alles oor alles te weet, terwyl jy min van die afrikaans/nederlandse taal/kultuur weet.

met jou nuttelose, dom reaksies beledig jy nie net my nie, maar sommer die hele afrikaanse gemeenskap.

ek gaan nou versoek: bly weg van hierdie forum solank jy afrikaans nie praat nie en solank jy niks ter sake om te sê het nie.

I have friends in Flanders and the Netherlands (my friend Joachim hosts my crappy web page actually) and used to know Dutch much better. They all remarked that I learned it quite rapidly, and there's no reason that I couldn't do it again. I can still read reasonably well though.

What do you think of this video by the way? A friend showed it to me and I found it quite funny.

It was only a joke, Siegel. I don't dislike Afrikaans. Of course I <3 all Germanic languages. You're no stranger to content-free, one-liner posts yourself, and so are in no position to criticize...

So you are saying that talking Afrikaans is like talking German while being utterly drunk and having a terrible throat disease? :wink:

Exactly. Anyone who knows anything about my taste in language knows that comment was not so much an insult as it was compliment.
