MMan wrote:* ... and "gatvol", which isn't in the song, but it's one of my favorite Afrikaans words.

One of mine too! It just says it all! Ek is gatvol = I've had it, I'm done, I won't take anymore! But "Ek is gatvol" just says it so much better! :D In SA, everybody uses the word, even if they don't otherwise speak Afrikaans. It's been accepted as part of all of our languages, and widely used.

Ok, here is my version of the song in Dutch. Tried my darndest. any suggestions/improvements, much obliged!

laait nou diep,

diep binnen in mij.

The use of the singular term "the Turk" (o Tourkos) is a semantic strategy for essentializing the ‘other.’ "The Turk" as a descriptive term of the ‘other’ seeks to individualize the collectivity in an absolute manner.

Hey everyone. I'm new so don't mind me but I would really like to help out with this one.

met 'n kop op my lyf, gee my net 'n kans
Dis omdat sy so lekker voel
Sing nou almal saam met my
Boeremeisies rule

I'm a boeremeisie and I like to dance
With a head on my shoulders, just give me a chance
A boeremeisie you should get, cause they give great kisses
A boeremeisie rock and she is cool
Its because she always feels good
So everyone sings along
Boeremeisies rule

The trick with Afrikaans is you can't translate it directly. Also when she says they feel good it means they are easy-going, fun women. They don't stress and are almost always happy.

I think some got the wrong idea about the song when it was translated. Lol 😆it happens.
