Writing is usually phonetic in origin, and reverts back from time to time.

Swedish boett reflects the prerevolutionary French pronunciation of boîte.

Swedish skejsel (sky sail), strejk (strike), keps (caps), kex (cakes) are adaptations from some kind of English. They should have used ä in these five words, so the respelling is only halfbaked.
