Swedish translation help

Postby Katalina » 2017-06-01, 0:22

What do these Swedish sentences mean? They seem to be highly idiomatic.
Thank you for any help.
Katalina

En liten kastrull
med stora öron
förstår dig när
du inte säger
halv sju.

Jag lagade
vårt recept.

This is an oxymoron... A kastrull is the kind of pot that has one big handle and not two small öron ("ears"). Like this. http://www.dafra.se/ftp_bilder/produkte ... -MD418.jpg

It's different from a gryta, which has those ears. http://www.cleancut.se/images/stories/v ... 00x400.jpg

In any case:

A small pot
with big ears
understands when
you don't say
half [past] six.

I cooked
our recipe.
Swedish (sv) native; English (en) good; Norwegian (no) read fluently, understand well, speak badly; Danish (dk) read fluently, understand badly, can't speak; Faroese (fo) read some, understand a bit, speak a few sentences; German (de) French (fr) Spanish (es) forgetting; heritage language.

Thank you so much.

Might I use the word "kruka" instead? Also, what are the idiomatic expressions in English? I believe the half-past-six expression means something like "remained silent."

Nah, a kruka is a flower pot and devoid of any handles or ears.

To be honest, the whole thing works much better in English than in Swedish (pots with ears and whatnot), maybe that is the original language?

Ok. Thank you again.

I really appreciate your help. I'm going back to study and work on this.
