Help with a word: sureld

Postby steffe » 2014-05-27, 16:34

Hello!
I am an Italian translator and I translate from English and Swedish into Italian.

I found this forum because I was looking for help with a Swedish word. I hope I will be able to contribute, too.

I found the word "sureld" in a book and I don´t know what it means. I did not find it in any dictionary and I don´t find anything googling it.

What I understand is that the "sureld" is a fire made with wet logs, and so it produces a lot of smoke.
Is it correct?
If not, can someone explain the word to me?

Thanks in advance.
Stef

I have not seen that compound before, but as far as I can tell, you are right.

Hi and thanks for your help. I think that is what the word mean, i.e. a fire with a lot of smoke.

I tried looking for sureld and for "sur eld" but nothing helped.

I only found these pages:

It seems logical that sureld is what you get when burning surved.

Sur in this context means wet, ved means firewood.
Swedish (sv) native; English (en) good; Norwegian (no) read fluently, understand well, speak badly; Danish (dk) read fluently, understand badly, can't speak; Faroese (fo) read some, understand a bit, speak a few sentences; German (de) French (fr) Spanish (es) forgetting; heritage language.

Tack Johanna.
Det var faktiskt mitt resonemang. sur = wet och inte sour.

Tack!
