Dobro si me oglej - translation, please

Postby mssccb84 » 2005-11-01, 0:53

Can someone translate this song for me? I think the title means "take a good look at me" but i'm not sure... Its by a group called Unique. And to any Slovenians in this forum: Do you know if this group is still together? Thanks a lot. Oh and sorry there are not accent marks... hope it doesn't make it hard to translate.

Dobro si me oglej

Dobro si me oglej, saj navajena sem zmagovati,
Dobro, dobro si me oglej, vsec si mi, ne bom ti pokazala,

Naj razlozim, vem, kaj zelim, kar hocem, to dobim.
Vsak hoce biti moj junak, ti se me izogibas.

Dobro si me oglej, saj navajena sem zmagovati,
Dobro, dobro si me oglej, vsec si mi, ne bom ti pokazala,

Dobro si me oglej, saj navajena sem zmagovati,
Dobro, dobro si me oglej, vsec si mi, ne bom ti pokazala,

No, Unique are not together any more. They were a product of a tv competition called Pop stars. If you can believe the magazines the girls didn't like each other very much so the group fell apart very soon. I think this is actually their only song (there's also a video).

But there's no need to weep over Unique. The three girls who were beaten in the final show of this Pop stars competition formed their own group BBT or B.B.T. and they're still out there.

You don't put stress on words in everyday writing. Everybody will know what you're writing about. There are only a couple of less frequently used words which look like other more frequent words - those usually take the stress mark to avoid misunderstandings.

If noone else translates the song, I'll translate it for you later today or tomorrow.

Here is a version with accent marks, maybe that helps you.

I guess accent marks mean different things to us. I thought you meant stress marks, but it seems that you meant č, š and ž.

You always write č, š and ž. Only in the internet you can ofen find texts with c, s and z instead. Native speakers will understand the text nonetheless, since we have enough practice and can deduce from the context quite easily what is meant. But for a language learner such texts are probably not the best choice.

BTW, mssccb, are there really Slovenian - English dictionaries out there, which don't have č, š and ž in them?

Here's my translation:

Dobro si me oglej
Take a good look at me

Dobro si me oglej, saj navajena sem zmagovati,
Take a good look at me, since I'm used to winning,

If you want to play, you've chosen the right one today.

Dobro, dobro si me oglej, vsec si mi, ne bom ti pokazala,
Take a good good look at me, I like you, I won't show you,

I won't confess to you that tonight I lost the battle for the first time.

There's no man who could match me, I know how to trick you.

Naj razlozim, vem, kaj zelim, kar hocem, to dobim.
Let me explain, I know what I wish, what I want I get.

Vsak hoce biti moj junak, ti se me izogibas.
Everybody wants to be my hero, you're avoiding me.

The thought that you're hiding something from me is enough.

Prebiram tvoje misli, prebrati jih ne znam.
I'm reading your thoughts, but I don't know how to read them.

When I accept your game, I don't recognize myself any more.

Dobro si me oglej, saj navajena sem zmagovati,
Take a good look at me, since I'm used to winning,

If you want to play, you've chosen the right one today.

Dobro, dobro si me oglej, vsec si mi, ne bom ti pokazala,

Moskih kot ti, kar mrgoli, razum mi govori.
There's plenty of men like you my mind is telling me.

I'm looking for a way, rough or fine, to set myself free.

Vsak hoce biti moj junak, ti se me izogibas.
Everybody wants to be my hero, you're avoiding me.

The thought that you're hiding something from me is enough.

Here I meant that there were no accent marks, as in č, š, ž. In my other post, I was looking for a dictionary that would mark where to put the stress in each word.

And also, are there any Slovenian websites where I can watch music videos? I would like to see the video for this song. Thanks again.

I don't know any such sites, but bfter some search I found one of their videos on a news site:

http://glasba.siol.net/novice/glasba_cl ... 0508462216

(it seems that Dobro si me oglej wasn't their only song after all.)

Here you can also check out their competition B.B.T. if you want to:

http://glasba.siol.net/novice/glasba_cl ... 0312323316

I didn't find Dobro si me oglej.
