The next question would be: which language? Standard Slovene or the vernacular which Slovenes actually speak?

I think the most popular Slovenian band now is Siddharta (apart from Laibach, which is a classic). They play pop-rock. They sing in standard Slovene (their last album was recorded in two versions: Slovene and English with a deep Slovenian accent). The singing is very clear and the music is pretty good. So I'd recommend you this one.

Another sample of clearly pronounced standard Slovene is pop music of Tabu.

I could recommend you some punk rock bands, but they usually don't sing in standard Slovene.

Yes, Siddharta and Tabu are popular, although I haven't heard anything from Tabu for a quite a while already.

Here are some of my suggestions, although the labels I gave (rock, pop, ...) are not 100%.

If you like pop/rock maybe you would also like Tinkara Kovač (she studied translation, speaks at least five languages and also plays the flute - just some trivia). Others: Lara Baruca, Billy's Private Parking (they also have some songs in English), Leeloojamais

If you like rap N'toko is said to be one of the best. Others: Trkaj, Murat&Jose

Pankrti were the most well-known punk band in the 80s. Even people who never listened to punk (like me) know their songs, others: Lublanski psi

Orlek (rock, ethno)

Res Nullius, Big Foot Mama, Šank rock (the name says it)

Olivija, Melodrom (pop)

Terra Folk, Katalena, Katice (ethno, folk)

Elvis Jackson (reggae, ska punk? -says so in a review of their album)

Vlado Kreslin, Zoran Predin, Andrej Šifrer, Iztok Mlakar, ... have all been around for quite a while now.

Well, Pankrti, already mentioned by skye, is a classic.

Another classic punk rock band is Niet.

As regards new bands, I'd mention Zablujena Generacija (neopunk, pretty commercial but quite good anyway) and Racija (fast, traditional punk rock).

skye, ti si prva Slovenka, ki sem jo srečal in ki pozna to skupino Ko sem bil v Ljubljani, sem iskal njihovo ploščo. Nihče ni slišal o njih: "Kaj? Psycho-Path? To je slovenska skupina? Ni mogoče!"

Saj jih poznam bolj po imenu kot zares. Nekajkrat sem jih videla na tv-ju, v nekih kulturnih oddajah in v nekem filmu, se mi zdi. Drugače so oni s Prekmurja, če prav vem. V javnosti se ne pojavljajo veliko in tudi oglašujejo ne prav nič, tako da ni čudno, če so tako neznani.

Nekajkrat sem jih videla na tv-ju, v nekih kulturnih oddajah in v nekem filmu, se mi zdi.

Mogoče v filmu "Varuh meje", kjer so izvedli dve svoji pesmi.

V javnosti se ne pojavljajo veliko in tudi oglašujejo ne prav nič, tako da ni čudno, če so tako neznani.

Hkrati je njihova najnovejša plošča ena redkih slovenskih plošč, ki jih lahko kupiš v normalni trgovini na Poljskem. Razen njih sem videl samo plošče Laibacha in Siddharte.

Saj sem že slišala nekje, da so bolj znani v tujini kot doma.

To me spomni na nekatere poljske skupine, ki pojejo po angleško in so bolj znane na evropski sceni underground kot doma.

Nočem odpirati nove teme, če že imamo eno o glasbi. Tukaj objavljam videospot pesmi, ki je trenutno kar popularna in je tudi meni všeč.
