So, I've never heard Slovenian, can you tell me if the pronunciation of this guy is a bit Italianized or not?

Thanks in advance :)

Far from standard Slovene accent. I think this guy comes from Italy, the region Furlanija - Julijska krajina to be exact, so it makes sense that he talks with such strong Italian accent. He's trying quite hard to speak with a standard Slovene accent, not really succeeding though (and this is, of course, only my opinion).

I don't think it's that far from standard Slovene. I think he is doing a pretty great job, although there are some pretty clear signs (the way he stresses some words the wrong way or the way he pronounces some e-s or l-s) that he is from that region.

Yep, he does, that's the regional broadcasting news for Slovenian speakers. :-)

The Italian name of the region is Friuli-Venezia Giulia.

If I heard Slovene language on the street, I'd think it's Portuguese.

Judging from the video above? Then I can see why you think that. But that's the deal with Slovenian accents. If you go to its very west, it sounds like Italian; very east, sounds like Hungarian; elsewhere it's more Slavic.

Does any of these guys sound Italian/Portuguese? Borut Pahor (the guy on the right) is from Nova Gorica (town right by the Italian border), but his pronunciation doesn't sound very Italian. Or at least I think so.

Neah, here it sounds something like very clearly-spoken Serbian, in Germany usually people don't diferentiate the people from ex-Yugoslavia by their language, therefore many call them all Yugoslavians (of course, maybe this is not very politically-correct). The other video sounds like Portuguese(not like Italian, anyway).

I can very much agree with you that it sounds like clearly-spoken Serbian (or Serbo-Croatian). And I don't mind being called Yugoslavian at all ;) was born in Yugoslavia. And I wish more people could place Slovenia as an ex-Yugoslav republic and not as ex-Soviet or something. So for me personally Yugoslavian is politically very correct.

I know a Serbian guy from Bosnia who lives here and has told me that Yugoslavia wasn't bad and that Tito was a great leader. Is that a common standpoint among ex-Yugoslavs?
