I was wondering if somebody could help me out in confirming or denying this for me. I'm trying to find the etymology of the last name Yeglic (spelled this way in the United States) and whenever I enter it into Facebook searches or Google searches it also pulls up Jeglič (as well as Jeglic) as similar results.

I cannot find a single thing on Yeglic history at all, except an immigration record from the 1920s to the US, but I was able to find that Jeglič links to Slovenian results. Does Jeglič / Yeglic look like a Slovenian name or am I horribly off base?

Any information on this at all would be appreciated, also, IPA of how to pronounce it in Slovenian would be great, too! (I can't get the IPA to type out on my Macbook (fail) but from looking at the phonology for it on Wiki, something along the lines of yay-gl-ih-tch?)

Without looking at anything my first association when I read this word was a type of flower. I've never seen it as a last name, but that may only be because I don't know the right people.

Google finds examples where it is used as a last name too.

Yaeglich

(Slovenian is not as fond of diphthongs as English is.)

The e is a narrow and long e, I don't think English has it. Keep your mouth spread not round and lenghten the vowel.

Yeglic is an Americanization of the Slovenian name Jeglic (with the accent on the c). My grandparents fled the country during world war 2. They told me they had to decide between the phonetic yeglic (or yeglich, which is how the name is properly pronounced), or the closest written similarity, Jeglic. They chose the latter. Jeglic is closely associated with the primrose flower, although I'm convinced theres an underlying meaning to the name, which is how I fell upon this topic.

À la française: "Yéglitch."

There's a Serbian basketball player named Dušan Jelić, maybe it's Serbian/Croatian name then?

Jelić is not the same. Jeglič is an actual surname, and I honestly don't think they're related, although you can't know for sure.
