I'll start with my favourite from the 80's when I was a kid (there seems to be a lot of 80's revival going on around me and I heard the song on the radio just recently). I mostly liked the song because of its lyrics, especially the chorus, that's why I'm including it in the post:
Band:
BazarSong: Tina
Genre:
popYoutube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhibwU-Q70AText lyrics with my own quick translation (pretty word-to-word):
Tina, kratka zgodba dvajsetih let.
(Tina, a short story of twenty years.)
Mladostne sanje in strgani listi velikih besed.
(Youthful dreams and torn paper sheets with big words.)
Na rosnem* licu porazi in večne prevare.
(On the very young cheek defeats and eternal deceptions.)
Gradovi v oblakih, peščene utvare.
(Castles in the clouds, sandy illusions:)
Tina, dolge sence starih dreves, misliš, da sama si?
(Tina, long shadows of old trees, you think you're alone?)
Veter tam za gradom ti grabi lase in slišiš pesmi pozabe
(The wind behind the castle grabs your hair and you hear songs of oblivion)
z gostilne pri Lini, ki grejejo prste, otroški spomini.
(from Lina's Inn, which warm fingers, childhood memories.)
REFREN:
(CHORUS:)
Tina ne verjame,
(Tina doesn't believe)
da je danes drugače.
(that it is different today.)
Tina ne zaupa,
(Tina doesn't trust)
niti lastnim očem.
(even her own eyes.)
*rosen - in its basic meaning it means dewy, but it can also mean very young, which is probably meant here (a very young girl, yet she already knows about defeat and deception).
Bazar was a popular pop band in Slovenia in the 80's, some of their other hits include: Si še jezna name (Are you still angry with me), Portorož 1905, Poišči me (Find me - also my favourite), Dober dan (Good day), Amerika, Zate (For you). Slovenian Wikipedia says that the band was active from 1984 to 1992 and released two albums: Bazar in 1988 and Amerika in 1990.
