I've just read (not in Lithuanian of course  ) the incredible book of Vytautas Bubnys -"Nesėtų rugių žydėjimas" and I got inspired of the atmosphere and the language. I've found a lot of materials on internet so I decided to take up some Lithuanian lessons.

Hi, Gothwolf :) Actually I didn't read this book but even the title of it sounds so Lithuanian. In what language it was translated? I found that there was a film made with the same title in the soviet era. By the way "Nesėtų rugių žydėjimas" (Blossom of the rye that were not sown) is the last book of three on the same theme by Vytautas Bubnys. As I understood according to the review the main theme of this book was the changes of lithuanians’ moral values during the soviet years? This topic is always painful to lithuanians  and there are many literature works about it.

Good to hear that you are interested in lithuanian language! :)

I found the book in a box by a second-hand street bookseller and it's translated into Bulgarian. The title in Bulgarian is "Как цъфти незасятата ръж" (How does the uncropped rye blossom). Yeap, the plot is about the life of countrymen who go to live in the big town. The book describes their struggle for life during the soviet years. I did like the final - there wasn't happy end, as it was expected. I liked most of the main characters, too - they're hard-working and don't give up everything. The one thing I didn't like were the divorces (but this is a part of life - that's why I liked the book - it describes the real life with all good and bad sides.)

So that could be one of the examples of changes in moral values that author wanted to depict :yep: He probably wanted to say that perception of a family has changed.

Labas!

I decided to join this Forum for I've come across a problem with a translation of the warning announcement 'Do not lean out!', which can be seen on trains.
Is it possible to express 'lean out' with one verb in Lithuanian, or better to write 'stick the head out'?

I hope to hear some suggestions soon.

Neišsikiškite...
Nekiškite galvos! ???

Nekiškite galvos pro langą! ??
