Did you know, what is the longest Hungarian word? Voilá and behold:
megszentségteleníthetetlenségeskedéseitekért
I found it in many website, but as I saw it nobody explained to English natives the meaning of it. Generally it is just said that this monster-word has no any meaning in Hungarian.
Well, strictly saying this is true, this word is not used in the daily communication, and it has no any useful meaning. So, from this viewpoint it is really meaningless.
However, I think it is useful to present for the learners who want to be familiar with Hungarian, which is the meanings of the suffixes, and how this horrible word was generated!
So take your eyes to the following steps:
1. The base-word is:
szent, with the meaning: "holy" or "santa".
2. szentség = holiness or sacredness
3. megszentségtelenít: to desecrate, to profane, to violate
(and the "meg" prefix in this word create the "perfect" tense-dimension of the word).
4. megszentségteleníthet: he/she/it can desecrate it or something
5. megszentségteleníthetetlen: cannot be desecrated, so nothing and nobody can desecrate him/her/it
6. megszentségteleníthetetlenség : the ability/talent/attribute/quality of something or somebody, that he/she/it cannot be desecrated.
7. megszentségteleníthetetlenséges: this word is an adjective, and it express that something or somebody HAS the ability/quality/etc described in the above explanation.
8. megszentségteleníthetetlenségeskedés: somebody simulates as if she/he has the ability/quality/etc explained above, and she/he simulates this ability/etc not only once, but many times, very frequently.
9. megszentségteleníthetetlenségeskedése: this aptitude/tendency for the simulation described above is a property of somebody, so, this is equal with the following English construction:
his/her ...
where the "..." is the long Hungarian word described in the line numbered #8.
10. megszentségteleníthetetlenségeskedései: This has same meaning as the #9, just in plural, so he/she has not only one but more/many items of this attribute.
11. megszentségteleníthetetlenségeskedéseitek: these many items of the "simulate-habit" described above is property of YOU ALL, so, this is something possessive construction for the plural number.
12. megszentségteleníthetetlenségeskedéseitekért: this means in English:
for every ... of you all
where "..." means the long Hungarian word mentioned in the sentence #8.
YES, indeed, there is no error: in the sentence #8, because look at it:
English Hungarian
for = -ért
you all = -tek-
every = -ei-
(approximately).
I think in these days this explanation is the best about this word in the whole Universe...
I ask YOU ALL who has good English, in exchange please to correct my explanation described above! I would like to have it in good English... Thanks!
