I can't actually write anything in Hungarian, besides simple questions. And that's about it.

Alternatively, could u translate some ENglish into Hungarian for me? Right now I don't have anything else really, to learn Hungarian with, besides here. But if it's boring, then don't.

I was wrong, see below.

I guess I can actually write some sentences

Ritka amulett találott. I found a rare amulet.
Ritka amulett találunk. We find a rare amulet.

If you're emphasizing finding the amulet, would találott go first?

Találott ritka amulett. (I'm not sure waht we do in English for emphasis like this)

Or if emphasizing the rarity, ritka, would it be the same as what I did already? Ritka amulett találott.

A csapda egy állat fogott. The trap caught an animal.
Az állat fogott a csapda . The animal was caught in the trap (I don't know how to say this)

A séf az főzési készségeketja dicsekedett . The chef boasted about his cooking skills.
Az általános az harci képességekja dicsekedett . The general boasted about his fighting skills.
A bokszoló az gyors ütések dicsekedett. The boxer boasted about his quick punches.

A kunyhó kicsi. The cottage is small.

A kunyhó nagyobb mint kutyaól/falka. The cottage is bigger than the doghouse.
A kutyaól/falka kiscebb mint kunyhó. The kennel is smaller than the cottage.

Ő kutyája mocskolódik/gyaláz . He abuses his dog. (WHich verb?)
Sértegető/gyalázkodó szülők. Abusive parents (Which one is they insult u alot & which one is they hit u alot?)

kozmetikum/smink = makeup

A vakmerő hős a leányka mentettek. The bold/reckless hero rescued the damsel.

That's interesting. With me, it's usually music. A song in Italian was what initially inspired my polyglot inclinations. My favorite "moment" was a Russian song. Если в сердсе It's a really cool song… Romanized, it's Esli v serdse. By Julia Savicheva. With French, it was the music of the language as well as how they spell things. I think it's really cool.

Thanks for the tip !!! I will go and see but I'm sure I'll become an addict as I love having penpals   :silly:
But if I got that right, Hungarian forum isn't where you'll get penpals ? :o

Music is a very good way to get to know a language and to like it but it didn't work this way for me
Although my favorite music band (in the world and all the universes) is Czech, I didn't pick up the courage to learn Czech for the moment :( and the Hungarian music I love sings in Yiddish (I love Klezmer).

You mention French being a musical language... Why is that so ? I think on the contrary French in the only language with no inflection, thus very boring, with no vowels being stressed and everything said in a flat tone... Boring !!

Well… I just like the way people speak French. I mean the music of the sounds. How they pronounce the letters.

Jobban hansúlyozná, de nem kötelező.
It would emphasise it even more, but it's not a must.
Or if emphasizing the rarity, ritka, would it be the same as what I did already?

Igen / Yes.

A csapda egy állatot fogott. = The trap caught an animal.
Az állatot elfogta a csapda. The animal was caught in the trap.

A séf az főzési készségéről dicsekedett. = The chef boasted about his cooking skills.
Az tábornok a harci képességeiről dicsekedett. = The general boasted about his fighting skills.
A bokszoló a gyors ütéseiről dicsekedett. = The boxer boasted about his quick punches.

A kunyhó nagy. = The cottage is big.
A kunyhó kicsi. = The cottage is small.

A kunyhó nagyobb mint a kutyaól. = The cottage is bigger than the doghouse.
A kutyaól kisebb mint a kunyhó. = The kennel is smaller than the cottage.

kicsi = small
kisebb = smaller
legkisebb = smallest
legeslegkisebb = smallest smallest smallest smallest :yep:

Note: When it comes to the doghouse I mostly say "kutyaház" (kutya = dog, ház = house).
And "falka" means a pack of wolfs. (Or dogs I guess)

Kutyájával durván bánik. = He abuses his dog.

Note: durván bánni X-szel = to treat X badly.

mocskolódik = gets dirty
gyaláz = talks badly of / blasphemes (I mostly hear it in a religious context)

kozmetikum/smink = makeup (Note: Smink is more used)

A vakmerő hős a leánykát mentette meg. = The bold/reckless hero rescued the damsel.
A vakmerő leányka a hősöt mentette meg. = The bold/reckless damsel rescued the hero.

I'm watching KÖZÉPSULI sorozat - 7. rész [KÖZÉPSULI TV] on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVLetzkO0Vk And I can't make out most of what they're saying. I also watched some of Bogyó és Babóca 13 Új Mese. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMryMZyw9cc. I can only understand words here and there and I don't get the gist of the conversation.

Could anyone write down parts or all (if u want) of the Középsuli ep. 7 and/or an episode of Bogyó és Babóca?

Or if u don't want to do that. Maybe u could write down some things that Hungarians would say in conversations.

Uhmm, I don't think you're going to find someone. Sorry for that.

Especially that the videos are long (I count anything above 5 minutes as long).

So that's why the Középsuli has so many views...

What does this mean?

Többé már nem sirat úgy hidd el téged senki sem,
Mint ahogy én siratlak azóta is szüntelen.
Nem szégyellem, s mellettem (I'm not ashamed, )

Hull az elsárgult levél, (The yellow leaves fall)
Sír a fáradt őszi szél, (The tired autumn wind weeps)
Mondd, hogy nem múlt minden el, (Tell me, that not everything is past (gone?))
Mondd, hogy néha könnyezel.

Többé már nem sirat úgy hidd el téged senki sem,
Absolutely nobody will cry for you anymore, believe me

Mint ahogy én siratlak azóta is szüntelen.
As I cry for you endlessly since then

Nem szégyellem, s mellettem
I'm not ashamed of it, and besides me

Hull az elsárgult levél,
The yellow leave falls

Sír a fáradt őszi szél,
The tired autumn wind is crying

Mondd, hogy nem múlt minden el
Tell me, how didn't everything come to an end

Mondd, hogy néha könnyezel.
Tell me, that you cry sometimes

How do I use -így- and -úgy-?
And what do they mean?

They both mean "so", or to be more exact így means "this way" and úgy means "that way".

Én így festettem = I painted it this way / I painted it like this.

Ha úgy beszélsz, akkor fogd be! = If you speak that way, then shut up! / If you speak that way, then shut up!

Hogy készítesz egy szobrot? Így vagy úgy? = How do you make a statue? This way or that way?

Én úúúúúúúgy szeretlek! = I love you soooooo (much)!

Köszönetlek is, Levike :D it's useful for me too as I am desperately trying to complete my understanding of Hungarian sentences 8-) I think I got the basics.
Now, I just need to find those big lists of vocabulary and start Learning them off by heart :yep:
The fun...

Good luck too Zafír :D

Szívesen.

Még egy dolog: köszöntelek = I greet you, köszönöm = thank you (literally: I thank it)

Now, I just need to find those big lists of vocabulary and start Learning them off by heart :yep:

I probably said this once or twice on the forum, but how I made my language learning fun was that whenever I found some song I liked in the language I was learning I looked up the lyrics, looked up the meaning and learnt those words. That way whenever you listen to the songs again and again slowly the words are going to stick.

Mint ezek itt / Like these here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxjJOnQJt-s
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_T9mNOJODKs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtZqdKUft9s

Miután meghallgatsz kb. >50 számot, az már egy jó pár szó.
És a számokban általában mindennapi hasznos szavak vannak.

After you listen to like >50 songs, that's already a lot of words.
And songs also usually have common useful words.

Na, gondolom, hogy neked más zenei ízlésed van, de érted, hogy mit akarok mondani.
Now you probably have other musical tastes, but you get the idea.

Hurrá, éljen a kétnyelvűség!
Yupi, long live bilinguism!

Thank you again Levike :D I did that, already :D

My current obsession is this one : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1_QlXKDu-k

But
1/ the vocabulary is complicated
2/ once I've learnt it, I'm not sure I can speak Hungarian with a real Hungarian people :D

So of course I'll do that but will also look for vocabulary lists (like here : http://www.goethe-verlag.com/book2/_VOC ... U/ENHU.HTM for example). It doesn't list everything but it is categorized (which makes us save a lot of time) :D

my day problem is the "még" - I DO NOT UNDERSTAND IT. And it drives me crazy :doggy:
But I will manage. Two weeks ago it was the "-nak" "-nek" and I won over it. I will also win the battle against "meg" :D

Jó éjszakát ! :D
