Choir song translation!

Postby strongals » 2008-11-26, 15:46

Hey everybody! I need your help in translating a hungarian choir song by the name of Hajnali Dal into english. Please reply as soon as possible. I need them urgently. Thank you all very much! The lyrics are as below. There are not exactly in sequence because I don't know the meaning so I can only guess which is first and which is second.

A-mint éj-fé-li ó-rán az á-lom szár-nya ért
álmom-ban jaj de volt,
az is ten tud-ja, mért, az is-ten tud-ja, mért?
Le-zárt szemmel bo-lyong-tam egy kert-ben va-la-hol,
az is-ten tud-ja mer-re,
ki tud-ja?
az is-ten tud-ja hol?
Le-zárt szemem sze-lí-den csó-kol-ta va-la-ki,
az is-ten tud-ja, hány-szor,
az is-ten tud-ja, ki?
hány-szor? ki?
sa-hányszor kar-ja át-font,
a-hány-szor csók-ja ért,
mindég egy kőny-nye hul-lott, ki tud-ja, mért,
min-dég egy kőny-nye hul-lott,
az is-ten tud-ja, mért? Mért?

By the way, if you guys can help me with the pronounciation as well, I will be very grateful. Thank you!

A-mint éj-fé-li ó-rán az á-lom szár-nya ért
What the wings of dreams reached at midnight

álmom-ban jaj de volt,
There was in my dreams,

az is-ten tud-ja, mért, az is-ten tud-ja, mért?
God knows, why, God knows, why?

Le-zárt szemmel bo-lyong-tam egy kert-ben va-la-hol,
With closed eyes I wandered in a garden somewhere,

az is-ten tud-ja mer-re,
God knows where,

ki tud-ja?
Who knows?

az is-ten tud-ja hol?
God knows where?

Le-zárt szemem sze-lí-den csó-kol-ta va-la-ki,
With closed eyes Somebody was placidly kissing him/her,

az is-ten tud-ja, hány-szor,
God knows, how many times,

az is-ten tud-ja, ki?
God knows, who?

hány-szor? ki?
How many times? Who?

sa-hányszor kar-ja át-font,
Ho many times have his arms embraced you?

a-hány-szor csók-ja ért,
As many times his kisses reached you,

mindég egy kőny-nye hul-lott, ki tud-ja, mért, [Probably should be mindíg]
Always a tear of his was falling, who knows, why,

min-dég egy kőny-nye hul-lott, [Probably should be mindíg]
Always a tear of his was falling

az is-ten tud-ja, mért? Mért?
God knows, why? Why?

The hyphens are only there to mark the syllable breaks, and are not necessary. I added one though.
Emphasis on the first syllable, don't aspirate plosives
sz=s
s=sh
zs=zh
c=ts
cs=ch
ny=ny
ty=ty
gy=dy
ly=j=y

The vowels are like the IPA page on wiki says:
a=A
á=a:
e=ɛ
é=e:
i=i
í=i:
o=o
ó=o:
ö=ø
ő=ø:
u=u
ú=u:
ü=y
ű=y:
