Good and quick grammar reference

Postby Earl » 2008-10-04, 17:05

Tegnap megtaláltam http://www.hungarianreference.com. Mit anyanyelvi beszélők gondolják erről? Tudtok mást hasonló nyelvtanú lapokat?
Szerintem http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungarian_grammar túl bonyolult van
és hiányzik múlt időt például.

Yesterday I found http://www.hungarianreference.com. What do natives think about it?
Do you know any similar grammar sites?
To my mind http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungarian_grammar
is too sophisticated and lacks eg. past time.

Hello Earl!

I don't like Hungarianreference.com, it's not written by a native, and has quite a few errors. But being not written by a native, it may be easier to follow by another non native reader.

I see no problem with Wikipedia though:
Hungarian language
Hungarian grammar
Hungarian noun phrases
Hungarian verbs

These are quite decent and accurate in my opinion.

Another good description of the language is http://www.unilang.org/course.php?res=70

A nice but small course is available at Wikibooks: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Hungarian

Last and least, there are also some other courses out there, too, like:
http://www.hungarotips.com/hungarian/, http://www.personal.psu.edu/adr10/hungarian.html, http://impulzus.sch.bme.hu/info/magyar.shtml

Hope this helps

Glanced over it, some things didn't load. As far as I can tell the information is good and there is quite a lot there, so they should cover all the basics at the least, however, had I done it, I would have made better tables for conjugation.

On the topic of grammar, I've made a few minor corrections
Earl wrote:Tegnap megtaláltam http://www.hungarianreference.com. Mit anyanyelvi beszélők gondolják erről? Tudtok mást (the adjective doesn't need to agree with the noun in case) hasonló nyelvtanú lapokat?
Szerintem http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungarian_grammar túl bonyolult van (no copular verb in third person)
és például< hiányzik [a]* múlt időt---például.
(múlt idő is the subject of the verb "hiányozni" and is in nominative, not accusative.)

*"/the/ past tense is lacking". You could also say "nincs múlt idő" (there is no past tense)

I think "past tense" is called "múlt igeidő" but I'm not sure.

"Mit anyanyelvi beszélők gondolják erről?"
Here, the verb should come after the pronoun
"Mit gondolják anyanyelvi beszélők erről?"
Also, you used the definite, in questions like this, use the indefinite
"Mit gondolnak anyanyelvi beszélők erről?"

enjoy

Corrected the wikipedia links, sorry!

Nice corrections by '''!
So the fully correct version put together is:
Tegnap találtam a http://www.hungarianreference.com-ot. Mit gondolnak róla az anyanyelvi beszélők? Tudtok más hasonló, nyelvtani oldalakat?
Szerintem a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungarian_grammar túl bonyolult, és például hiányzik a múlt idő.

Múlt idő: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungarian_verbs#Past_tense

We don't say "múlt igeidő", just simply "múlt idő". However when talking generally about tenses, we use "igeidő", because simply "idő" could also mean "time".

Thanks a lot. I didn't expected that there is an individual article for Hungarian verbs in wikipedia. I have already known most of the mentioned sites, but they cover only beginners course.
I trying to find something more advanced but in easy form like this: http://www.unilang.org/course.php?res=70#ci-l4introduction
I can feel I need more practice esp. in word order.
