Phrase Translation

Postby solblooms » 2009-06-08, 16:36

Can anyone help with the translation and possible source? My translation is not eloquent at all.

"Vos estis tam sancti sicut vultis."

Hi! A translation would be:
You (plural) are as saint as you want

I hope it's useful for you.

Bye

It's "holy," not "saint."

Ok, but sancti can either be saints (I forgot the 's', sorry) or holy, venerable, august, pious, just.
The word is the same; interpretations are in each one.

Tam is used with adjectives, adverbs, and verbs, not nouns. Besides, the term "saint" only applies to texts that are from the Christian Era, so you shouldn't immediately assume it's "saint" if you do not know which text a passage is from (even if it is a Christian text).

Thanks guys. My Latin professor says,"You are as holy as you desire to be."
