I thought I'd finally start a personal thread in this forum to help myself review vocabulary (and maybe keep track of errors I'm making).

if = kalau
when? = kapan?
What about this one? = Kalau ini bagaimana?
Why?/What did you say? = Kenapa?
which one = yang mana
to pay = (mem)bayar
meaning = erti
to understand = mengerti
I wish to order some... = Saya pesan...
Please let me have a look at that. = Coba lihat itu.
to accompany, go along = ikut
to ride, ascend = naik
to come down, disembark = turun
to begin = mulai
to run, flee = lari
to put, place = taruh
to carry = bawa
clever = cerdik
to leave, depart = berangkat
to cook = masak

Hi Vijay, glad to see the enthusiasm of foreigners learning Indonesian! (It's nice to see you learn another Austronesian language other than Filipino as well :lol: ) I will provide some help for you as well, if you don't mind.

What about this one? = Kalau (yang) ini bagaimana? (yang acts as an intensifier, you can exclude it)
meaning = erti/arti (arti is only used in Indonesian, elsewhere (in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei) it is erti)
I wish/would like to order some... = Saya (mau) pesan... (also an intensifier, can be excluded)
Have/Take a look at that. = Coba lihat itu. (lit. Try looking at that.)
to follow, accompany, go along = ikut
to come down, disembark, descend = turun
to begin, start = mulai

Thanks, I appreciate it! I actually started learning Indonesian a long time ago, when I was little. It is definitely the first Austronesian language I ever studied, long before I tried anything with Tagalog, really.

(sleeping) is (my favorite pastime activity) = ialah/merupakan

activity = Malay (ms) aktiviti Indonesian (id) aktivitas

pastime = Malay (ms) masa lapang Indonesian (id) rekreasi :?:

my = -ku, e.g. my favorite = kegemaranku

Travelling gives me back my sanity = Berjalan-jalan mengembalikan kewarasanku (better translation than Perjalanan memulangkan kewaresanku)

berjalan-jalan (or, more often, simply travel in Malaysia) = going to some places for the purpose of tourism/sightseeing

mengembalikan = give me back, return (especially something abstract)

memulangkan - similar but not used with abstract things like sanity

I am so sad = saya sangat sedih (not saya sedih sekali?)

to see everyone's happy = melihat semua orang gembira (not *melihat bahwa semuanya senang. Is melihat bahwa semua orang senang also possible in Indonesian?)

EDIT: Some new vocabulary from Easy Malay, CultureTalk Malaysia (first passage), Easy Indonesian, CultureTalk Indonesia (first transcript), and GLOSS, respectively:

to watch = menyaksikan (from saksi!)
education = pendidikan
to be located = berada
interviewer = pewawancara
interview = wawancara
training, exercise, activity = latihan
service = layanan
