Unforuently there isn't much for Malay. You could try Colloquial Malay. I have used much of it but it seems to be okay. If you are interested in Indonesian there is a Comprehensive Grammar avaible for it, unforuently I can't find one for Malay. You can try this website also:

Thanks, Meera :D . Maybe I'll try Colloquial Malay. I am already using the website you linked to, it's really good! I'm at lesson 56 now and lesson 14 in TY. TY is okay but it focuses too much on tourist situations. It's almost like a phrasebook. Also the dialogs are really long so it's hard to memorize them, they are probably just meant as listening practice. The exercises could be longer and more in depth. I would also like more detailed grammar explanations. They often introduce new grammar points but don't really tell you when to use it, just that it is used in Malay and you should be able to recognize it. It's okay for a start, but I was hoping for something that takes you a bit further.

Yeah I have both the Malay and Indonesian teach yourself books. You are right they are like phrasebooks. I use them mainly because they are the only things really avaible with audi besides colloquial with audio. There's a course called Basic Indonesian from Tuttle but it's really awful. :P

Here's a few more useful resources
Malay for Everyone http://bookza.org/book/1073932/0f3a1f
Malay in Three Weeks: Introduction to Modern Colloquial Malay http://bookza.org/book/1180406/efb1c0

A Student's Grammar of Malay and Indonesian

All the links are reliable and working, but the books may be a bit outdated but I am sure you'll gain more exposure of the language from those books.

Can anyone recommend me a monolingual Malay textbook designed primarily for use in a course with a teacher? This sort of thing.

Since most of these links are now dead, I'll try adding new resources here.

Here's the new link to the same website.

And here's SEASite's adaptation of the 1966 Peace Corps materials on Pattani Malay, spoken in Pattani (Southern Thailand, bordering with Malaysia). Pretty good for beginners, but has no audio files.

A website on Malay grammar in Malay. Also contains some other stuff, such as a Hangman-like game and learning/practice materials.
