Sorry for the late reply. The correct idiom is "veien går til mens man går". A figurative translation would be: "The road paves itself while one is walking (on it)". It is a way of saying that the outcome doesn't rely on planning ahead.salieri wrote:What does veien går til mens den går mean?
Excellent idea! How about "Idéer til å forbedre det norske språkforumet"? Or perhaps "Forslag [suggestions] til å forbedre det norske språkforumet"?Raufoss wrote:I was just thinking about a few things we could do to improve this forum and I'm sure other members will have their own suggestions. How about if we start a new thread/topic with "Ideas for Improving the Norwegian Language Forum" (or something similar to this) as the title? Would the following title be correct?
Ideer for å forbedre den norske språk forumet
Har noen andre har et forslag til et emne tittel?
Does anyone else have a suggestion for a thread title?
På forhånd takk for hjelpen!

Since it is obvious which forum we are attempting to improve, how about using this thread title instead?
Forslag til å forbedre dette forum/Suggestions For Improving This Forum
På forhånd takk!

ScuzzyMcdumplings wrote:Hello All,
Some time ago I heard a Norwegian word that was used to describe the sludgy stuff/grounds left at the bottom of a cup of coffee. I think I recall the beginning of the word starting with an English G or J sound. Any help in identifying the word is greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Hello!
(Kaffe)grut is probably the word you're looking for.

I do believe that's the word. Thank you so much!

Actually, I don't believe I can! While "grut" is a word, it is (almost?) never used by itself. Everyone uses the word "kaffegrut" instead. Only if "kaffegrut" has been used in a previous sentence is it okay to say "gruten" (in reference to the aforementioned "kaffegrut"). An example:Raufoss wrote:Could you please give an example where grut is used by itself in a sentence.
På forhånd takk!
