Elanor wrote:"czy to Ty nauczyles mowic ja do ludzi platku??"

Adding the missing diacritics, it probably means:
Was it you who taught her to call people "płatek"?

Only if it two words were swapped:
“Czy to Ty nauczyłeś ją mówić do ludzi «płatku»?”.
And I wonder why anyone could have a reason to say such a weird sentence.

lol, i'll explain.

I used to work with a polish girl. a friend of mine is a polish male. I sometimes call him Petal (it's an inside joke) and I asked her to tell me how to say that in polish. she has never met him before but wrote that comment on his facebook page, obviously she must have known that he was the one I wanted the translation for...she must have forgotten that she was in fact the one who taught me the polish for petal (puatku??)... that probably explains the first sentence which is something about working together?

...anyway, that's why it was said in a sentence :)

Hi, friends!

I have found a text in Polish. Would you mind translating that into English? Thanks... :)

Ankara miedzy Wschodem a Zachodem

Szybko spakujesz swoje manatki i wrócisz. Rzeczywistość okazała się jednak zupełnie inna...

Ankara between East and West

The beginning of May 2007. Driving to the Tegel airport in Berlin, from which my plane to Ankara was to take off, I did not know what to expect. For a few weeks worrying news have been coming from Turkey about a coup d’état planned by the army. British tourists too have been warning me at the airport about its possibility; in 1997 they had to cancel their vacation in Turkey because of that. You will see, in this country the army takes over the government every 10 years. Now it is time for another overthrow. You will quickly pack your belongings and come back. The reality however turned out to be completely different…

can someone translate this for me?

i will be very happy =)

thanks!

(it's a lyric)

As always, I have to remind you that my poetic translations suck.

Z Nadzieją, Że Nie Ma Nieistnienia

With Hope That There is no Non-existence

What do you think, after the very last silence,
Where no letters are sent from
Will our two tender souls recognize each other again
And will they meet?

Czy dusze znają mowę dotyku?
Czy wymieniają spojrzenia?
Czy mijają się w milczeniu,
Czy w nieznanym nam języku rozumieją się?

Do souls know the speech of touch
Do they exchange looks?
Do they pass each other in silence,
Do they communicate in a language unknown to us?

Happy ones will find their consolation in ignorance.
How good I feel believing that there is no non-existence.

Do the souls exist here, next to us, like air?
Are they distant, like stars?
Do they float on the wind
Or silently make nests with the evening fog?

Do you think that the low July sun
WIll give us more of its warmth there?
And will our souls be allowed to hold each other's hands on a noisy, fragrant meadow?
Brejkam wszystkie rule.

So yesterday I was in a supermarket in Linden, NJ (which has a very heavy Polish presence) and I was excited to find a whole rack of Polish magazines. I bought a copy of "Detektyw", which was really the only magazine not published for women or housewives. In order to build my vocabulary and my feeling for Polish syntax, I've decided to work on translating an interesting-looking story in it. So far I've done the opening paragraph, with the help of my Wiedza Powszechna and an online dictionary for the occasional word not contained in it.

Can someone read it over and comment on it? I'd appreciate any criticism, suggestions, or clarifications of the original/specific meaning of the Polish (esp. of the title).

"Ill Fortune"
The family accepted the court’s ruling without protest. They did not request any stipulations. They stood looking resigned and dejected, perhaps reconciled with fate, or perhaps no longer having the strength to resist. Upon exiting the court, they both began to weep: Arkadiusz R. silently wiped his watery eyes with a handkerchief, while his wife Teresa sobbed so loudly and desperately that they had to rest for a moment on a bench. People looked at them with curiosity, but they payed no mind to this attention.

When I read your translation, I was very impressive. Despite a few mistakes it's very very good. You should develop your Polish. You have a potential.
Practically I didn't have to correct it.
The title is good.

Thank you for your comments, szymek. Just to be clear, I translated the Polish text into English; the Polish text I transcribed is the original text from the magazine. I think maybe you thought it was the other way around, because I guess what you wrote was your own translation of the English text? Either way, this is also helpful to me, thank you.

I'm working on translating the rest of the story into English... perhaps in the future I will try going from English to Polish and post it here, but now I think my skills are not nearly at that point. :(

Anthox, your translation is very good indeed. The only thing that comes to my mind is "resigned and dejected". It gives the idea, however, "smutny/-i" are almost always translated as "sad", so, say "sad and resigned" in this case. :)

hi

can someone translate these lyrics for me?

Jest wiatr, co nozdrza mężczyzny rozchyla
Jest mróz, co szczęki mężczyzny zmarmurza
Jest taki mróz
Nie jesteś dla mnie tymianek ni róża
Ani też czuła pod miesiącem chwila
Lecz ciemny wiatr
Lecz biały mróz

Jest taki deszcz, co wargi kobiety odmienia
Jest blask, co uda kobiety odsłania
Jest taki blask
Nie szukasz we mnie silnego ramienia
Ani ci w myśli klejnot zaufania
Lecz słony deszcz
Lecz złoty blask

Jest skwar, co ciała kochanków spopiela
Jest śmierć, co oczy kochanków rozszerza
Jest taka śmierć
Oto na rośnych polanach wesela
Z kości słoniowej unosi się wieża
Czysta jak skwar
Gładka jak śmierć
Gładka jak śmierć

..-.-

and this one

Nie trzeba mnie wyganiać, nie trzeba mnie odpychać.
Obejmę jabłoń za szyję, zacznę z jabłonią usychać.
Zapłaczę nad agrestem, przejdę się malinami. I będą
skurczone liście. Jagody z czarnymi plamami...
Trzeba mnie wziąć do domu, przy stole dębowym
posadzić. Trzeba mnie długo pieścić,
po zimnych stopach gładzić.
A kiedy sen mnie zmorzy albo zaleję się łzami,
długo po czole miedzianym ciepłymi wodzić ustami...

if the one who translate this for me want, i can make a draw as a gift for him/her =)

Well, I have to warn you: my translating skills has never been subjected to poetry or any kind of song lyrics, so this can be pretty bad attempt. You've been warned.

And for anyone who'd have some comments or reproofs - feel free to point them to me. I'll be grateful for any feedback.

So, here it goes.

There's the wind that man's nostrils parts
There's the frost that man's jaws marbles
There's such frost
You are not thyme nor rose to me
nor tender moment under the moon
But dark wind
But white frost

There's the rain that woman's lips changes
There's the glow that woman's thighs exposes
There's such glow
You' re not looking for mine strong shoulder
Nor gemstone of trust occure to you
But salty rain
But golden glow

There's the heat that lovers bodies incinerates
There's the death that lovers eyes dilates
There's such death
there on dewy glade of joy
The ivory tower appears
Pure as heat
Smooth like death
Smooth like death

There's no need to drive ma away
I'll embrace apple-tree's neck, I'll start withering with it.
I'll mourn for gooseberry, I'll walk raspberries. And there'll be
shrunken leaves. Berries with black stains...
I need to be taken home, by the oak table
sat. I need to be caressed long,
to have stroked my cold feet.
And when I'd be overcame with sleep or burst into tears
I need warm lips moving over copper brow...

Seweryn Krajewski
Run Away My Heart

1. A short while - somewhere in a hotel room,
Holding hands somewhere on a beach, a spark in the eyes.
A short letter sent in a haste, a daisy in snow - a good thought,
It's still not enough to live, my heart.

Run away as the dawn comes, it will be embarassing otherwise
and no one will forgive the coldness of your lips.

Rainy Tuesdays, that will come after Sundays,
A drop of grief caused by yourself
It's not true that it was meant to be, that going nowhere was worthwile,
It's still not enough to live, my heart.

Run away as the dawn comes, it will be embarassing otherwise
And no one will forgive the coldness of lips, the lack of words
Run away as the dawn comes, it will be embarassing otherwise,
And no one will forgive the coldness of your lips.

Sudden and shy departures, which are not funny,
An unaware dog or leaf (/teddy), who'd been betrayed
A sadly meager bunch of flowers and a new delusion, a new thread
It's still not enough my heart to live.

Run away...

Meaning of "Nieś po błocie w dal"

Postby baffled » 2009-10-03, 13:09

Hi,
I'm trying to learn Polish as my mother came from Poland. I never learnt as a child.

I came across the poem Deszcz , jesienny deszcz and like it a lot.

Can some explain what the line "Nieś po błocie w dal" means. What is being carried here?

Thanks

Hu.

Hi and welcome,

Can some explain what the line "Nieś po błocie w dal" means. What is being carried here?

The answer can be found in the next verse (it this is the right poem of course :) ):

"Nieś po błocie w dal, w zapłakany świat
Przemoczone pod plecakiem osiemnaście lat."

That's an imperative - "(Do) carry..." and translating it literally you'd have:

"Carry over the mud into the tearful world
Thoroughly wet under (inside) the backpack eighteen years."

After cleaning up the the messy word order you'd get:

"(Do) carry the thoroughly wet eighteen years in the backpack over the mud".

Not an easy start for a beginner. :nope:
