maldekstra/maldekstrulo

Postby harmanjd » 2010-07-03, 21:57

What is the difference between maldekstra and maldekstrulo ?

I really want to know how to say

I am lefthanded

Some sites on the web give a translation using maldekstra and some give maldekstrulo.

maldekstra means left. Anything ending with a is an adjective
Maldekstrulo is a left-handed person. -ulo is the suffix for a person.

So to say "I am left handed", you would say Mi estas maldekstrulo, I am a leftie.
Mi estas maldekstra can mean I am left-handed, Mi estas maldekstrulo is more common.

If you wanted to be more specific, you could also use "maldekstramana" (adj. left-handed) or "maldekstramanulo" (n. southpaw/left-hander/leftie). I only bring this up because "maldekstra" and "maldekstrulo" can also refer to being on the left end of the political spectrum.
