Writing the time in Italian

Postby Spooky » 2021-06-18, 21:15

My professor asked us to “write in Italian as many ways to say, 19:30, as we know how. He then said at least 3 examples.
I can only think of two ways.
Sono le diciannove e mezzo
Sono le diciannove e trenta

Am I missing something?

Help!

Thank you

You can also say "le sette e mezzo/mezza di sera", o "le sette e trenta di sera" (but usually we use the word "mezzo/mezza").

Are there any varieties of Italian with a construction parallel to either German halb acht (literally "half eight") or Catalan dos quarts de vuit (lit. "two quarters of eight")?

I have never heard such way of expressing time. It is possible to say, at least in my region (Tuscany), 20 alle 8 (20 to 8), or even 25 alle 8 (25 to 8); but not 30 alle 8 (30 to 8).

I think it's 19:40 is said 20 alle 8 in Northern Italy and Tuscany, while in the rest of Central and in Southern Italy it is said 8 meno 20.

I've never heard X:35 said as 25 alle X or X meno 25 though...
