HOW THE VERBS WORK IN SARDINIAN LANGUAGE

The auxiliary "To Have" : Hàere

Good morning again :

As you can see the auxiliary "Hàere" has lost a B from the Latin "Habere"; while in indicative present the entire syllable BE was lost. Another peculiar thing is the accent on the first syllable, while in all the other romance languages the accent falls on the second syllable, like Italian "Avere"

HOW THE VERBS WORK IN SARDINIAN LANGUAGE

Good morning again :

In the previous posts I talked about the auxiliaries, this time we'll see how the other conjugations work.
Unlike Italian where there are only 3 conjugations, in Sardinian the conjugations remained 4 like in Latin, but there have been changes during the evolution from Latin to Sardinian. Most of the verbs of the Latin 3rd conjugation in Sardinian switched to 2nd conjugation, also acquiring its suffixes. While only an handful of verbs remained in 3rd conjugation (I can remember only verbs like "Permittere, Promittere, Dimittere, Ammittere, Trasmittere" and similar).

Conjugation suffixes :
Latin : fūro, fūras, furavi, furatum, fūrāre
Sardinian : furo, fùras, furaìa, furadu, furare

1st Conjugation : Furare (to steal)

HOW THE VERBS WORK IN SARDINIAN LANGUAGE

Good afternoon

Today we'll talk about the 2nd conjugation. Sardinian 2nd conjugation is very regular and remained very similar to Latin 2nd conjugation; the peculiarity of Sardinian 2nd conjugation is that includes not only the Latin verbs of 2nd conjugation, but also the near totality of those in origin belonging the 3rd. During the evolution from Latin to Sardinian most of the verbs of the 3rd switched to the 2nd, also acquiring the suffixes typical of the 2nd. While just an handful of verbs remained in the Sardinian 3rd conjugation.

Conjugation paradigm:
Latin : tondĕo, tondes, totondi, tonsum, tondēre
Sardinian : tundo, tundes, tundìa, tusu, tùndere

2nd Conjugation : Tùndere (to cut the hair, to shave)

HOW THE VERBS WORK IN SARDINIAN LANGUAGE

Good morning

Today we'll talk about the 3rd conjugation. Sardinian 3rd conjugation is just a shadow of the former Latin 3rd conjugation, since the near totality of the verbs in origin belonging the 3rd, during the evolution from Latin to Sardinian have switched to the 2nd, also acquiring the suffixes typical of the 2nd. While just an handful of verbs remained in the Sardinian 3rd conjugation. In actual 3rd conjugation I can remember only verbs like "Permittere, Promittere, Dimittere, Ammittere, Trasmittere" and similar.

Conjugation paradigm:
Latin : prōmitto, prōmittis, promisi, promissum, prōmittĕre
Sardinian : promitto, promittis, promittìa, promissu, promittere

3rd Conjugation : Promittere (to promise)

:y:
