Contractions

Postby Midnight » 2012-03-12, 16:33

Are all the contractions of prepositions and articles still used like colla, pel, dai etc. ?

I'm asking because I've got an Italian coursebook from the early 50's.

Contractions are obligatory with di, a, da, in, su. Contraction with "con" is used in the spoken language. "Col" and "coi" is widely use also in the written language. "Per" is always used, both in the spoken and the written language, as an independent word (per il, per la, etc...).
