I would've said questo è un insulto a me e a mia nipote.

Ciao IpseDixit!
Questa frase l'hai corretta solo per motivi stilistici, o mi sono sbagliato grammaticalmente?

"I morti non lasciano passare i vivi" significa the dead don't let the living pass non do not suffer the living to pass.

Ho capito, va bene, grazie, ma si legge anche "Perché non troverai altro su quella via..." Il suo tono di voce si era alzato all'improvviso. "...quegli spiriti non lasciano passare i vivi!"

Perché nella frase "Vorrei che leggesse quel libro" il congiuntivo imperfetto è usato invece del congiuntivo presente semplice?

EDIT: *gasp* È simile alla frase inglese "I'd like it if you read that book"?

Quando c'è un verbo che esprime volontà o desiderio (e.g: volere, desiderare, preferire etc etc...) coniugato al condizionale, si deve usare il congiuntivo imperfetto:

Ciao a tutti,

Ciao a tutti

Mia madre mi telefona e dice:
Dove sei?
Dico:
(Qual è la frase corretta?)
Sono nel ristorante messicano Zapata.
Sono nel Zapata.
( I am inside the restaurant)
Ringraziamenti anticipati.

Hello everybody

I want to translate this sentence into Italian:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophy_of_history
Hegel argued that history is a constant process of dialectic clash, with each thesis encountering an opposing idea or antithesis.

My attempt :
Hegel sosteneva che la storia fosse un costante processo dello scontro dialettico, con ogni tesi che affrontasse un'idea opposta o antitesi.
Is my translation correct?
If it's not , what would a native speaker suggest?

Thank you.
P.S: I decided to use CONGIUNTIVO IMPERFETTO. Is using it correct?

I would say:

Hegel afferma che la storia sia un processo costante di scontri dialettici, in cui ogni tesi si scontra con un'idea opposta o un'antitesi.

The use of congiuntivo imperfetto is correct in your translation, but it's better to use the present tense for the whole sentence. This usage is common when you talk about a philosopher's thought - because he or she said something, but they still continue to talk to us through their works.

Hello everybody

I want to translate this sentence into Italian:
Pity that my daughter lives 5000 kilometers away from me.
My attempt:
Peccato che mia figlia vive a 5000 chilometri da me.

Is my translation correct?
If it's not, what would a native speaker suggest?

Thank you in advance.

I'm not good with subjunctives but I would say:

Peccato che mia figlia viva a 5000 chilometri da me.

Thank you.

I would be glad if native speakers gave their opinion about my translation.
