I suppose then the best thing to do is ask the person who came up with that sentence :)

To keep it consistent with azhong's translation (Traditional script): 以英語為母語的人。

Also “英語母語人士”。

用中文表达这个概念有点绕嘴,所以现在很多外企都直接用英语 English native speakers..

Close!

你(們)要我去商店買些蘋果

Because in English, there is distinction between singular and plural "you", I'm not sure which you intended here. So if it's singular, remove the 們, if plural, leave it in.

You don't need 個 here since you already have 些 as the measure word.

Don't forget the 嗎 to make it into a question ;)

謝謝,
我有第二題,我要知道如果這個短語是正確的:
“在古埃及,猶太人都畫上邊的他們的門用牛的血,因為上帝能知道這是一家猶太人的家。”
新年快樂!

I'm not a native speaker of Chinese, but here are some suggestions (red means changes and additions; green with strikethrough means deletions):

我有第二題,我要知道如果這個短語是正確的:
The word 如果 is a conditional "if"; it doesn't bear the alternative English meaning of "if" as "whether (or not)". You could also replace 否 with 不是.

I think the following is closer to natural (though it would be better for a native speaker to comment):

“在古埃及,猶太人都用牛的血[來](something)他們的門上因為上帝知道這是一家猶太人的家。”

Where I wrote (something), you should put what they painted above the door.

The 來 is optional, but in this sentence it functions like "to", in its sense of purpose: "use cow blood to paint..."

The English part is correct. :)

I suppose so, but I'd say "grocery store" rather than just "grocery." (However, some people apparently do say just "grocery," although I can't remember ever hearing this in person).

Hey guys, could you please help me translate the following passage in Chinese?
I'm sorry if it's a little long!

Oh God
I did not know
how difficult love is
or how hard it would be
to be separated for yet just a month
My insides are torn with despair
inside my head are demons ripping at my thoughts

Oh, to be with you
will settle my dreams
holding you will calm my soul
allow me to sleep

I want to drink to forget the distance
to forget the planting of the demons
I stare at your image
imagining you smiling
eating and sleeping next to me.

The pain of this separation
is almost more than I can bear
you in your cozy home
and me all alone with my dreams

Your every move thrills me
the sound of your voice sends me
to ecstasy, a place of nirvana
Shangri-la

oh to drink coffee
and listen to jazz again
to make you smile
and feel your breath on my neck
will take me to the edge
of what life has to give
yes you can, bring to me
the happiness that only a woman
can bring to a man.

Hi Pasie,
I've never replied here because I don't know much Cantonese.

I could try with:

Sin-nei,  講日文唔係醜死鬼。

But then I don't speak Cantonese, and that's assuming your friend can read written colloquial Cantonese.

Otherwise, most Chinese dialect speakers usually write in Standard Chinese, so you could write:

Sin-nei,  講日語並不尷尬。

Assuming that most Chinese people in North America use Traditional script.

Gamerelite, what are these the hotkeys for? Some kind of online game?

OldBoring, you mean the font size, or the length of the text?

Here's the original text (in case you meant the font size wasn't large enough, OldBoring) and my attempt at a translation into English. I guess only OldBoring will be able to tell just how much I got wrong in this translation.

F1 (未)激活 主场方进球数99 = F1 (Dis)activate 99 (points?) home square score
F2 (未)激活 主场方进球数清零 = F2 (Dis)activate Reset home square score
F3 (未)激活 客场方进球数99 = F3 (Dis)activate 99 (points?) opponent square score
F4 (未)激活 客场方进球数清零 = F4 (Dis)activate Reset opponent square score
F5 (未)激活 直接结束比赛 = F5 (Dis)activate Directly end match
F6 (未)激活 最大比赛时间 = F6 (Dis)activate Longest match time
F7 (未)激活 无限体力 = F7 (Dis)activate Unlimited physical strength
F8 (未)激活 职业生涯无限金钱 = F8 (Dis)activate Unlimited career funds

Re: Translation of hotkeys

Postby OldBoring » 2015-11-11, 13:25

I meant font size.

It seems like a sports game, probably football/soccer, but it could also be American football or basketball.
进球 means "score/point/goal" (what's the term used in sports?), lit. "enter the ball".
主场方 is the team who plays at home. Home team?
客场方 is the team who plays an away game. Visiting team?

The rest, you translated it correctly, but since I'm not sure how to reformulate the English translation, I'll leave that task to you. :D
But disactivate? I thought in English you said deactivate... or more commonly enable/disable. :hmm:

I'm not sure, but maybe in a sports context 体力 would be better translated as physical resistance?

It's difficult to translate poetry. You need a poet to translate it.
