厕纸 is also an acceptable term, often found written on packs, although rarely used in speech.
卫生间 is a formal term, similar to English "washroom" or "restroom".

一般中国的语言学家把硬腭鼻音（palatal nasal）转写作 /ȵ/（非标准的国际音标）但是事实就是 /ɲ/。
另外，他们一般都写 /ku̯o/，不会把半元音（semivowel）写成 /w/。是不是两种转写的意思有一样？

后半句就不确定啦。我会在其他论坛问一些懂上海话的人。

Oh, when I first read this, I wasn't sure, either! I think they're called "parenthetical phrases" in English, though. I searched for it just to make sure.
