Well ofc there's way less Jewish people in the world than there are Christians or Muslims, so that narrows it down a lot. Plus, there's the whole "you can only truly be one of us if you're mother is also Jewish" thing. But there's Jews in the Middle East, Europe, the Americas and even Africa and China. They're originally a people of Semitic origin, but they clearly travelled and migrated a lot throughout history.

Well, I dunno. Maybe not my first guess. I'd probably guess Chinese at first, but if he turned out to be Indian, or South Asian in general, I'd not be surprised. Anyway, China borders India and there's a lot of genetic variety in two huge countries like those two, so it's not really a shock people from both nations can have a wide variety of looks. A bit unrelated, but apparently Chinese are the shortest East Asians on average, yet I've seen many tall Chinese guys. And by that I mean guys who are like over 187cm, so there's probably height differences depending on regions, too.

I wouldn't guess that girl being Chinese, no. Then again, people can look a bit different when they're kids than when they're adults. I was blonde as a baby and my hair only became fully medium/dark brown by the time I was 3-4 years old or so I think? And if you saw me nowadays and compared me to my pictures from when I was 2-3 years old you'd never guess we were the same person.

Bit anyway, drop me in NYC or somewhere like that and ask me to spot the Jewish people on the streets. Unless they're wearing yamakas or dressed like Orthodox Jews, I wouldn't be able to tell you who is which.

Race is after all a socially constructed tool of white supremacy (only being half ironic there), so it's based on certain arbitrary markers that may or may not be there. My best friend is half-Asian and half-white and in a white-majority setting she's seen as Asian because of the shape of her eyes, but in an Asian-majority setting she's seen as white because she's paler than most Asians. Somebody could be read as Jewish in a Jewish neighbourhood but not elsewhere.

Clothing and demeanor are usually more effective ways to identify people at first glance tbh. I once said here I can easily spot German tourists here because they tend to dress in a certain manner I don't see locals and tourists from other countries dress like. Nothing to do with their physical looks per se.

Just like many Europrans can spot White Americans and Canadians in Europe easily. If you walk into a Greek village wearing an NFL or NHL jersey or with a sweater saying COLORADO COLLEGE that makes it rather obvious lol

Interestingly, studies of the skin and hair of Ramses II the Great's mummy have said that he was actually fair-skinned and red-haired.

Is that still the case? I've been increasingly seeing Europeans wear athletic gear, including hoodies and jerseys from American colleges they never attended. So nowadays I have to look for other tells (e.g. whether they're smiling or not).

(Conversely, when I was at a German university, I was very interested in buying a sweatshirt with the name and seal because I knew it would have cachet back home. Meanwhile my German friends attending the same college were like, "I'd never wear something like that.")

I've definitely seen some people wear jerseys of North American sports teams (I actually used to wear a Chicago Bulls jacket for parts of the 90s), but people are much more likely to wear apparel of European soccer teams. Not that that's anything new, heck, apparently, there even were people back in the 80s who'd wear NFL shirts while back then, people had no idea what they were. That very much has changed since the 90s.

Yes, my uni had such sweatshirts on offer and we just ridiculed the idea of buying that.

Can't say I've noticed locals wearing HARVARD COLLEGE hoodies here. So maybe it depends on the country.

Some... "urban" people might wear baseball hats or NBA tops, though, but I doubt most follow those sports. They probably just find it cool and fashionable to wear something saying "NYC" or "Los Angeles", I'm guessing.

Wearing athletic gear such as shoes and pants is not strange. A lot of people go out for runs and or go to the gym.

I used to feel that way, too, but the more closely you examine how systematic racism works, the harder it becomes to argue that they ultimate goal is to ensure that, regardless what happens, white people always end up on top. Whenever it looks like it might not turn out that way, we go and change the rules so it does.
