I used the term "MRAs" on Facebook recently (coincidentally referring to an incident on this board) and one of my friends was like "I had to look that up and it reminded me of learning about incels".

Come to think of it, I no longer have any idea how I learned about incels in the first place.

Unsurprisingly I learned about them from Reddit, which is full of neckbeards.

Ackshyually MRAs are the good guys and feminism is an evil matriarchal conspiracy, and allow me to explain why in this 10,000 word essay.

I think I learned about MRAs here on UL, and incels popped up down in that rabbit hole.

Yesterday my boyfriend used the abbreviation PUA and I could not remember what it's an abbreviation for. That's how isolated I have become from all this stuff since having a kid. Then today I came to Unilang and got reminded what those words in PUA are.

I have a vague feeling that might be what happened to me, too, except I can't figure out for the life of me how that happened.

I forgot and had to look up PUA when I saw this post earlier. :P

I feel like PUAs were a 00s trend. I haven't heard much about them for years since they've been overshadowed by incels, who hate them.

Do all incels hate them? I thought it was only some.

I don't know about all, but I was told that on the whole incels don't like them because they believe that PUA techniques are useless to incels, because they are biologically unable to pick up women for reasons. Therefore learning and trying to use them is nothing but "cope".

I learned only very recently about Dina Ali Lasloom, a Saudi woman (in case you didn't know, either) who attempted over two years ago to escape her family and seek asylum in Australia only for her family to force her to return to Saudi Arabia. This seems to be one of the highest-profile cases as far as women's rights (or even human rights) in Saudi Arabia are concerned. However, when I see some of these criticisms from non-Saudis, they complain that Western feminists aren't speaking out against this sort of treatment of Saudi citizens. Why do they say this when millions of people all around the world were doing just that, all kinds of international news agencies were reporting on it, etc.? So far, I haven't been able to tell whether they have some kind of agenda or are just ignorant or both or what.

Reading up on the situation in Italy, where doctors are allowed to avoid performing abortions by declaring themselves "conscientious objectors" (which 70% do), and it's just horrifying. This is what I worry will happen in the USA if the GOP drive for "religious liberty" succeeds.

Feminism as a concept can be triggering for male rape victims. Some perpetrators of rape, against men if not also against other women, are women who claim to be feminists.

Greece, and to a lesser extend Cyprus, are currently experiencing a moment of reckoning with sexual abuse in professional sports. The usual trolls climbed out of their holes to share the usual woman-blaming bullshit. In one of those discussions though, someone brought up this case from Sweden, where the molested athlete was male.

I can only wonder if more men being empowered to speak about the sexual abuse they received may sway some of the men who genuinely believe that sexual abuse is a myth women made up to punish men. Maybe they will believe men more than they believe women.

It seems to me that the type of men bringing up abuse against men when people condemn abuse against women is often the type of men who only care about abuse against men when they can use it to dismiss abuse against women.

I don't know that I readily recognize feminism. I pretty much only recognize it when a group asks for rights. I guess because my view is that females are more important. They carry our future by having the ability to create life. That ability alone makes them more important and worthy of protection from danger. I just can't find fault in women. I think it's wrong or the wrong way to think about the subject of sexes. Everybody plays a different role even if they choose that role

So no, I don't believe that we're equal; except when it comes to living in the same society and having opportunities, but if women were treated equally then it wouldn't be because women need more than men

In this case it was brought up in support of female athletes speaking out, but I can see how there's a thin line between that and minimising the vastly more common sexual abuse against women.
I guess I can only hope there's a way to wake rape-denying misogynists up.

Is it really becoming more common at a rate where we have any hope of abuse apologists noticing?

EDIT: Also I've said this before, but "vastly more common" is questionable especially given how often rape is underreported.

I certainly believe that the experiences of male victims are more under-reported. I am not sure about frequency though (and we can only hope for more data). I had that discussion with a few gay men over the last year, and the notion of "equality of arms" came up. They did mention to me how they are less likely to shy away from both verbal and physical confrontation if someone attempts to harass them. Both because of comparable physical size and because of socialisation. That's for adults only of course.

Then again, that equality of arms goes out of the window when things like this can happen.

Athletes, plural. I don't remember if anyone else has come forward than those mentioned in the Wikipedia article, but Nousiainen molested at least three young boys during his coaching career.
