japanese music

Can someone recommend some good Japanese music to listen to? I think my Japanese is good enough to where I can improve by reading alone.

I am a very active person so some music that I like 1. music that makes you dance (i.e. hip hop/breakdance music) (i’m NOT really that much into rap because of the absurd meaningless lyrics) 2. music that has A LOT of feeling and by this I mean music in which the singer really gets into and gives it their all (i.e. african american gospel) 3. music similar to 80’s/90’s love songs (i.e. earth wind and fire, luther vandross, etc.)

I only own two songs in Japanese:
Last summer - Kato miliyah
しるし- Mr. Children <- (this song is ok but normally i don't like songs like this...)

Hopefully you list songs that I can find on the internet and sample. Thanks! I can upload any songs of mine if you’re not familiar with any of the artists above. :)

Japanese has ALOT of bouncy music from things like anime, only it's a little too cute-sy for me. I listen to people like Bump of chicken, they sing slowly so it's good for reading lyrics too :) and they put alot of "feeling" into some of their songs I believe, especially in the song Arrows.

I'm checking out "arrows" right now. Any other songs that you recommend. feel free to list as many as you can think of, i don't mind a bit. :)

edit: i didn't like 'arrows'. I guess I also should say that I don't really like music other than what I listed above but I 100% do appreciate the recommendations nonetheless. I will also sample all of what you listed below also. thank you very much! :yep:

Ok, i've just finished recommending stuff to ILE.

Bump of chicken
Uverworld (rock)
Kokusyoku Sumire (黒色すみれ) (very unique artist, opera+j-rock+traditional+cabaret+"dark gothic" all rolled into one)
Mass missle (also rock)

Hitomi shimatani has a few good songs i can recommend:
Destiny... (also called 太陽の花)
Viola...
Yume biyori (also called Yume日和) (very cutesy song, easy to learn)

anime songs aren't always cutesy
I've posted some links of them here

Blue Bird and Hanabi by Ikimonogakari (I think) have lots of emotion, I don't know their others songs though. Wada Kouji in my opinion has lots of emotion and a great voice.

What is the name of the song they are singing at 5:29? I am going to download that song if I can find it. Too bad last lastfm.com doesn't allow you to listen to songs or I could sample the others you listed. :(

The song at that point is the track in called "My Best Friends" (the final song on the video)

As for the other artists, it is a shame that many/all of them don't have tracks you can listen to. You can try Youtube or Nico Nico Douga to find some songs. All of the artists listed have many helpings on those streaming sites.

宇多田ヒカルの早くからの音楽がR&Bらしいです。平井堅も聴いてみれば好きでしょう。

Hikaru Utada's earlier music is mostly R&B-type music. You might also like Ken Hirai.

Is there a place to get the lyrics of most songs from one place? I find that I can't learn from music unless I have the lyrics.
