Finnish TV news - links

Postby Levo » 2014-01-06, 0:17

Where can one watch TV news in Finnish?

Yle.fi seems to be a bit complicated to be honest, and haven't figured out how to browse among programmes, other than really old ones in the archive.

Norwegian, Swedish, Estonian, Latvian and Hungarian national TV-channels have a very user-friendly page for browsing among its online programmes, including the latest tv-news, series or documentaries.

I would like to find something similar in Finnish. Thank you!

Hmm, it doesn't seem to be too badly user unfriendly to me (well, I have the native advantage of parsing text faster at a glance, probably).

If you go to areena.yle.fi, there's a tab right on the front page with "Uutiset". There you get all the news broadcasts, the newest ("tuoreimmat") being up top.

Oh, but does the navigation look different when accessed from abroad?

Yes, as Varislintu said, just click on "Uutiset" and if you are also interested in watching series, you can click on "Areena" and then "Sarjat ja elokuvat".

Muuten, olen just katsonut jaksoa televisiosarjasta, jonka nimi on "#lovemilla2". Ne puhuivat ruotsia siinä jaksossa, vaikka ne puhuvat yleensä vain suomea. Varislintu, voitko sinä kertoa minulle, miten hyvin puhuvat ne ruotsia? Kiitos!

Tässä linkki jaksoon: http://areena.yle.fi/tv/2109561

Tältä näyttää Yle ulkomaalaisille: Image

The adult man is a native Finland-Swedish speaker, but I don't think any of the teenagers were. However, they pronounced quite well! I wonder if they got coaching from someone on the pronunciation. If not, I'm quite impressed. :)

And funny clip.

Oh, I just realized I wrote this in English. Sori, tiedän että olisit ymmärtänyt suomeakin!

Aijaa, kiitos vastauksestasi! Onko muuten normaalia, että puhutaan ruotsia tai tehdään ruotsalainen jakso, jonka sarjassa puhutaan suomea?

Ei, se ei ole normaalia ollenkaan. Suomenkieliset ovat helposti jopa vähän ruotsifoobisia. Ruotsin kieli on yleensä nuorten inhokkiaine koulussa, ja on yleensä ylpeyden aihe olla huono siinä. :)

Well, thank you for your help, guys.

Actually I discovered this, but almost no series and documentaries can be watched. That's why I made my post.
But oh, well, it is beginning to be similar at other nation's national TV-channels. Not like some years ago :)
I must do with Uutiset, se sopii. :)

And can I have a question already?

For me it seems to be plural partitivus:

Suomenkieliset ovat helposti jopa vähän ruotsifoobisia.

If I'm right, then why is it partitivus? :( If suomenkieliset is nominativus?

You have to write ruotsifoobisia because it's the compliment of Suomenkieliset. It's called predikatiivi in Finnish, by the way.

You can read more about this here: http://www.uusikielemme.fi/predikatiivi.html

Thank you very much Iván!

It's a very useful page!

Checking the partitiivi-akkusatiivi war on that, I almost feel like: Do I really want to master this language? :D

Well, you already speak Estonian, don't you? I guess Finnish shouldn't be that hard after all. :yep:

Well, thanks :)
I'll be fine though. Toivon että on jopa todellinen talvi ainakin Helsingissä.
