Heh, true . Even I can sing along to 'Teuvo, maanteiden kuningas', even if I've never consciously listened to Leevi and the Leavings and the song is almost my age :P. I guess they just play on the radio so much.

Teuvooo, o-o-ooo, ota meidät kyyyytiin, o-oo!

Hey, speaking about that Rihanna song 'Umbrella', there's also this Finnish version ;). I can't believe someone bothered to invent lyrics for the whole thing, and they even rhyme .

EDIT: Ai he! Joo, olen kuullut tuon laulun :). En tiennyt bändin nimeä.

And Rosetta: how about Orjatar ;)?

N-akkusatiivi ;). "Kuulla" vaatii yleensä akkusatiivin.

I found two groups very good for hearing spoken (or rather sung) Finnish, Pohjannaula and Tenhi.

Pohjannaula almost make me laugh when I try and keep up with the lyrics (which someone very kindly wrote down for me by doing play, pause, play, pause) but they are clearly said and great for pronunciation.

Tenhi are slower and darker, more melancholy but equally clear, not to mention powerful.

I think it's important you like the music you're listening to otherwise you simply won't take so much attention and are less likely to learn from them. Unfortunately both these artists are hardly mainstream and may be hard to come by, but If you're interested pm me and I could send you some.

I've got to throw out a few bands I like that haven't yet been mentioned:

Rajaton -- Ikävöi, Ihminen

Sydänpuu -- Sydänyö
(my translation...I know I made a few mistakes but I haven't bothered to redo the vid yet, lazy me)

Lauri Tähkä & Elonkerjuu -- Pauhaava Sydän

Yö -- Särkyvää

To Create A Warlike Feel by Sonata Arctica has a verse in Finnish, overlapped with an English verse, which sounds awesome but it's a bit hard to understand either one without reading lyrics along...
Here's a link anyway, just because I love this song so much. :)

And these are always fun...Beauty & the Beast in Finnish

I've always used Apulanta for this, right from the very start. :yep: It's really clear, and the guy's voice is possibly the most easily-recognised of any Finn.

Can someone recommend some good Finnish music to listen to? I kinda sort of received approval here that I can read in Finnish by myself to an acceptable degree so now I would like to start listen to songs in the language to build my speaking confidence and have fun of course. (Varislintu said I could be understood by a native w/o the text when I posted my reading so I think I should be ok reading alone... )

I am a very active person so some music that I like 1. music that makes you dance (i.e. hip hop/breakdance music) (i’m NOT really that much into rap because of the absurd meaningless lyrics) 2. music that has A LOT of feeling and by this I mean music in which the singer really gets into and gives it their all (i.e. african american gospel) 3. music similar to 80’s/90’s love songs (i.e. earth wind and fire, luther vandross, etc.)

Hopefully you list songs that I can find on the internet and sample. Thanks! I can upload any songs of mine if you’re not familiar with any of the artists above. :)

Hei kaikki! Suosittelen todella Scandinavian music groupin musiikkin kuuntelemista.

How about Anna Puu, the newcomer singer? She's become very successful in a short time, and she sings in Finnish. Her songs aren't too bad for the genre, and her voice is a bit different from the usual Finnish ”naapurintyttö laulaa” performers.

Anna Puu <- her songs are soooo slow. :( her voice kinda reminds me on Norah Jones.
