Thanks for the corrections and the music.

I have one more question:

I was actually under the impression that while этот, эта, это meant "this", тот, та, то would respectively mean "that". Do the forms of это actually mean "that"? When would I want to use the forms of тот instead?

Do the forms of это actually mean "that"?

you contradict yourself, look at your previous sentence
это=this
When would I want to use the forms of тот instead?

the matter is the word "that" is used in american english with the meaning of "this"(i have such impression), and when you speak Russian you should keep in your mind that ТО isnt used the same.

So basically, when you want to say "this" or "that" in the American sense, you would always use forms of это?

Actually, I recall only one case (a very important one, though), when the usage of 'тот' is necessary. Namely, the phrases of the type 'тот, который...', 'те, которые...', 'тому, кто...', 'то, что...', etc.

i'd like to add that TO can be used when we speak about 2 things:

give me not this apple, but that one

Usually ЭTO is referred to a thing which is closer to you and TO vice versa.

Yes, this is the "classical" usage pattern for 'тот', but, strangely enough, this convention is not obligatory. One can easily say: "дай мне не ЭТО яблоко, а вот ЭТО".

No wonder. Both apples can be close to this one :)

(Atsakiau rusiškai, kadangi čia vis dėlto rusiškas forumas ;) )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fB5rcTgqV6s&feature=related

This clip is actually from an old Malayalam movie, Neela Ponmaan (1975), but the song in it is entirely in Russian. I love almost all the songs from this movie, but all of the others are in Malayalam, and this one seems to have stumped everybody in India. No Indian I know of knows where this song came from, who sang it, what the words mean, or even what the correct title is:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHoOsy31gLk

It seems that the composer of the songs for this movie, the late Salil Chowdhury, simply ripped off a song sung by Irma Sokhadze in 1967. It's called "Зачем":

Wow is it the Indian actress that is singing the song... or did they just use the Russian recording? Her voice and even her accent is very close to the (Georgian) accent of Irma Sokhadze.

And yes Irma Sokhadze is lovely. This is her other famous song:

Nah, I'm sure they just used the Russian recording. Indian actors never sing their parts anyway; they just lip-sync :D

And aww, that other Оранжевая песня is so cute!

I've noticed that Агата Кристи got mentioned in the first page! If anyone has any more suggestions like that it would be really awesome. I've found a couple of others but being a newbie when it comes to Russian, I don't really know if the lyrics count as "beautiful" or not -- otherwise I'd post a couple of songs too.

I've renamed this topic to "Russian music" so that noone has doubts if their favourite piece should be considered beautiful or not. Just post it here!

I don't listen to much Russian music, so I'll just post some random songs I liked in the past:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SE6ljcPqxp0

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qWoT1M8GfA

I liked Цой, Сектор Газа and Ленинград too, but I'm afraid they are too culture-specific. :)

Whoever likes rap, you might find this bilingual song in Russian and German interesting:
Seryoga feat. Azad - 2 Kaiser
