I have to say, I thought Colloquial Portuguese of Brazil was so-so. The audio was way too fast. I appreciate courses that have audio at regular conversational speed but this was almost like Alvin and the Chipmunks. And the organisation of the course would be rather forbidding to a beginner. There are massive lists of vocabulary presented without any context and the grammar is taught in a very minimalist fashion, you have to infer quite a lot of it. That said, I think it could be of some use after beginning with a course like TY Brazilian Portuguese. (Bien sur, si vous parlez français, un seul mot: Assimil).

I have to agree with TheKickInside. I have two of those resources, and the first one's audio is too fast and the layout of the book isn't for beginners, at least not for beginners who have never learned a language besides their own.

I haven't the money to pay for continuous courses, but I would like to invest in learning materials that I can actually use, so does anyone have any suggestions? I really want to learn Brazilian Portuguese. :(

For me, Brazilian Portuguese was quite easy. I used Assimil (Il Brasiliano in tasca) and read some random grammar stuff on the Internet, and had a lot of practice with native speakers online.
