This is a site I have recently started constructing. It will mainly focus on the Croatian language/version but differences in Bosnian and Serbian will be covered. If anyone is interested or wants to contribute/suggest/whatever, feel free to comment.

I'm not making any money from it, it's completely free, I just feel there's not enough material online.

OK, this isn't an online resource, but: Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian, A Textbook by Ronelle Alexander and Ellen Elias-Bursać and Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian, A Grammar by Ronelle Alexander.

But I also have a few online resources to suggest: Langmedia and Easy Languages (this includes both Easy Croatian and Easy Serbian).

I just got a copy of the Alexander and Elias-Bursać textbook. I will say that it looks like it's intended for classroom use, so it's going to be a bit rough for self-study. For example, the pronunciation guide includes no explanation of phonemes that do not occur in English, e.g. hints on how to distinguish č and ć. The FSI textbook is much more thorough there. The grammar explanations are also a bit light for my taste--I'll take excessively thorough explanations that use specialized terminology over "simple" and "easy" explanations any day--so perhaps I should have gotten the grammar book as well.

The main appeal of this book is the way it presents all three languages together, along with occasional commentary on Montenegrin. Having every dialogue written out in all three languages is interesting and helpful. That said, a total beginner like me has to pick one to focus on at first, so I'm not really able to get a lot out of that aspect of this textbook.

I always suggest people pick Croatian first (or Bosnian, but resources for Bosnian are scarce) since Standard Croatian > Ekavian Serbian is downhill. The other way is much harder.

You can always use Easy Croatian for grammar.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'd been wondering about that, and thought perhaps I would arbitrarily pick Serbian to start with just because I like Boban Marković. I will do some more research and reconsider my approach. Is standard Croatian more complicated, then?

I've discovered some interesting site and it's name is Serbian Courses :). There is some free vocabulary, Serbian Cyrillic and similar stuff, all with audio support, and for something more, there are many blogs about Serbian language, Serbian culture etc. Friend of mine suggested me, for start, and I liked it...

Interesting blog :)

I thought I'd mention Teach Yourself Croatian, since I don't see it listed here but I also have it. (I think there's also a Teach Yourself Serbian).
