I use the ESSE dictionary and grammar published by The Insititute for Foreign Languages - Belgrade their website is http://www.isi.co.yu. It's new (2005) and up to date and comes on CD too. Doesn't tell you the cases or stress but is still pretty good.

Kate :D

Wow, thanks. ;)

I know about this dictionary, I was close to buying it, but I decided to go for Morton Benson (because of stress and cases :)). Yes, it is good, it's actually the first dictionary (and still the only one) that has introduced slang and taboo (vulgar) words. It's the most modern dict there is. ;)

I didn't know it was on CD and let alone online. It must be recent, I was on ISJ's site not long ago and I didnt notice it. :o

And the fact that there is a full online version is fantastic (and a great improvement). Once again thanks, Kate! :)

Just great to have one more English<->Serbian dictionary available indeed. :)

And that leads me to a question already... Although it's not likely I'll ever have to use such a word, I see that Morton-Benson spells bombonijera, while ESSE spells bombonjera (and neither offer the other spelling as a variation or something). Which's your pick?

 @ bombonijera

I definitely say bombonjera. ;) I've googled and bombonijera shows up at 'only' 173 intances (as opposed to 2,840 of bombonjera) and it's mostly on croatian sites (though i can find bombonjera at some other croatian sites), so there's your answer. :) Who knows what was more common (or treated as correct) at the time when Mr Benson wrote his dict. ;)

Oh, and the dictionary in my orthography rule book says 'бомбоњера (обичније него бомбонијера)' = bombonjera (more common than bombonijera). So both are correct, but, at least in Serbian, bombonjera is more common. ;)

Introductions to Serbian history can be found at
http://www.serbianunity.net/culture/history/
and
http://www.dwb.co.yu/dv/serbian.php

For Serbian cuisine look at
http://www.gourmed.gr/recipes/serbian/?gid=1&nodeid=15
http://www.ualberta.ca/~serbian/recipes.html

When I finally figure out computer speak I plan to write a program that searches for and provides conjugations for Serbian verbs...

Another grammar site:

http://www.umiacs.umd.edu/users/lpv/YU/HTML/jezik.html

I'm not completely satisfied with it (nor do I agree with everything written there), but it has sound files, and that is very good.

For learners of languages it is very important to practice hearing, and I think that nobody posted this, so here we go:
B92 has an archive of shows, with audio recordings and transcripts, so that you can practice listening skills. Now, not every show has audio (unfortunately more lighthearted ones don't), but you may try several shows and see which you like best.

archive

newest shows. You can find the newest audio recordings on the right part of the page.

http://www.vokabular.org/

The first online dictionary of foreign words in Serbian, which will hopefully turn into a real monolingual dictionary of the Serbian language.

http://www.srpskijezik.com/

There's a lot I don't understand about this, but it's about letters and words and the actors speak quite slowly and clearly. There are some episodes on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/user/dakimix/videos
Current focus: [flag=]lt[/flag] [flag=]fr[/flag] [flag=]bg[/flag] [flag=]hr[/flag] [flag=]ga[/flag]

I don't see this site mentioned - http://www.studyserbian.com/proba/Grammar/Index.asp
It gives a nice description of the basics of the grammar.
