These threads seem quite active in a few of the other language subforums, so I thought we might try one here in the BCS forum as well. Post away!

Great idea, but that song is in Macedonian.

edit: I'm only guessing, because the title is in Macedonian, though the song itself just sounds like a bunch of random vowels to me.

The lyrics are from a Macedonian folk song, there are lots of renditions of this song (here's one), but it's definitely the wrong song to start this thread.
Goals:

[flag=]de[/flag] ➜ B2 (Goethe-Zertifikat) / C1
[flag=]sv[/flag] ➜ B1/B2

It doesn't matter though. Macedonian songs are pretty popular all over ex Yugoslavia. :)
I've got a very beautiful Bosnian song for you, Remy:

Aah, my bad! I kind of assumed that it would be sung in Serbo-Croatian because the singer is from Bosnia... I wonder how many other folk songs from ex-Yugoslavia I've mistaken for Serbo-Croatian when they are actually Macedonian or another language!

Thanks for that song Rumpetroll, I really like Safet Isović! This is one of my favourite songs sung by him (hopefully this song is in Serbo-Croatian! :P):

Uhh, Safet Isović is one of my favourites! If I had to choose a few songs, these would probably be some of the best ones:

When I just started to learn Serbian (uhh it's going to be 5 years in a few months, and I still haven't been to Serbia yet), I used to listen to a lot of Serbian/Croatian/Bosnian songs, and they are all still very dear to me and evoke some kind of nostalgic feelings:

Yugo classics:
Garavi sokak: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rikm0OFq3Z8
Đorđe Balašević: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfwUNBqW7ns
Parnji Valjak: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwbPCJTgfRQ
Bijelo Dugme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7nnEyfs4aDc
Azra: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wuq9YI_9P6U
Bajaga: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLJktLcfXkM
Zabranjeno pušenje: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEdVyh8mGIY
Zdravko Čolić: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Er7cVTFmLso

More modern one:
Night shift: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcqcpBi511E

I don't generally like "narodnjaci" but this one has a special meaning to me:
Vera Ivković - Šta će mi šalvare: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSe8_lpnx0Q

And whatever you say, these two are hilarious :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vNoEEv8JdU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSgrmYgLbnw

This page has got a nice collection of punk-oi-ska bands:
Ispred dragstora
I used to especially like this one: http://www.ispred-dragstora.com/download/mp3/The_Group-Idi_u_kurac.mp3 :)

And I like rap as well:
Deniro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMnXIeXyfg8

I once downloaded a huge collection of children's songs, here are some of my favourites:
Bila mama Kukunka, bio tata Taranta: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzyvJFQYHhA
Baba Roga: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q20WW0-L_0w
Kad bi svi ljudi na svijetu: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzaUaqccTPI
Išli smo u Afriku: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydQgp51lHBs

To be honest, I'm only really familiar with sevdalinke. Can you recommend some songs from other popular folk genres for us?

Here's another great song performed by Safet Isović:

This is a beautiful song, I love the lyrics. It's Indexi - Žute dunje.

Another song that I really like is Dođi da ostarimo zajedno. It's originally sung by Šaban Šaulić, but if you don't like Serbian folk Let 3 has a version of this song as well. I prefer the 2nd. :)

Folk music from Vojvodina and Slavonia is great. Most prominent singer is Zvonko Bogdan.

^ Those are legandary songs from Toma. He has great songs and really good lyrics. I like listening to his songs, touchy. My three favourite songs from Toma are:

Svirajte noćas samo za nju

Svirajte mi tiho, tiše
