Serbo-Croatian language option

Postby zeme » 2011-02-03, 19:25

In addition to [flag]bs[/flag] Bosnian, [flag]hr[/flag] Croatian, and [flag]sr[/flag] Serbian,
the newly added Serbo-Croatian option can be selected in your My Languages and in forum posts.

Its iso 639-1 code is sh and it uses the flag of the former [flag]sh[/flag] Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

Enjoy!

Why does the language name start with the small "s" (srpskohrvatski)? While other languages whose orthography requires spelling their names with a small letter still start with a capital (such as Russian - Русский, and all other Slavic and Romance ones).

Hmm.. Should we capitalize all language names, or use the correct way of writing them depending on language?

I'll leave the capitalisation debate to others. In any case, the SFR-Yugophile in me is very happy to see a Serbo-Croatian option with the SFR Yugoslavia flag. :)

I don't think that the red star is necessary. We could have just used the flag without it, that is, the flag of the kingdom of Yugoslavia.

I agree. Is there a consensus?

I suggest that we use capitals for all languages, it looks more aesthetic and uniform that way.
