What you wrote is true, but now people use ''drug'' without any communist connotations. It can be synonymous with ''prijatelj''. I'm not sure how that works in Russian, but it doesn't have the implication that for example English ''comrade'' has.
And I, personally, didn't perceive thе 'drug' in the song as 'comrade', but rather as 'friend', even though it is possible that the singer meant both.
