Ode to Ariel

Who is Ariel? What is she? Why has she
Trapped me with her charms? Won’t she set me free?
Who is Ariel? What does this spirit seek?
Why am I in this tempest all this week?
I’m too weak to resist this magic spell
That’s penetrated my defensive shell
And grabbed me head to toe in long strong claws,
Whispering: “That’s my Prospero, what’s yours?”
I tried to run away, shake off this load,
So off I scooted to 2 Chatsworth Road.
She gave chase, caught me with a Prussian blonde,
And now I’m back once more in Ariel’s bond.
Who is Ariel? What is she anyway?
I don’t know – but she looks like here to stay.

Objekto Ripoza

Objekto ripoza 'stas maleble haltita,
Ĉar neniu estas gajnita aŭ perdita.
Nenie trovu manki nenie;

Aŭ igi lan mundon bona vian parton faru.

(I wrote this up pretty quick while I was at a poetry reading...)

You wash your hands, pure.
You wash the vegetables, fresh.
You’re ready to begin this journey with a clean slate.

You add water. It is essential.
How thick or thin you want the soup is up to you.

You grab the carrot.
The orange, phallic object feels good in your hands.
You begin to chop with a cruel satisfaction.
A testament to your anger.

You grab the potato.
It is uneven, misshapen, unique.
You peel away the skin,
And dice it into perfection.

You add spice, because a soup is nothing without variety.
Parsley, sage, rosemary, and time.
You swirl. You mix.
The colors blend along the current of the water.
You begin to lose yourself in the harmony.

Then you wait.
This is often the most difficult part of the process.

But at the end, you savor the fruits of your labor.
The roots, strong at first, have softened.
The spices in the water have blended, indistinguishably.
You forget the mess you’ve made in the kitchen.

You take your last sips.
You lumber to your bed.
You lie down. You close your eyes.
And you enter the most satisfying sleep ever slept.

I’ll buy you a beer if you can tell me what’s unique about this poem (hint: it's language-related)

Unto himself, he hoards his wear
Til the morning, when the haze lifts and,
Heaving the weight, he roams.
For the hills he wanders, and to the sea he casts his stones.

At the elden tree, he watches for truth
Seeks wit and rest from the aches of the wayfarer.
Weaving the blades, he wills.
For the walds he treads, and to the fire he bears his angst.

With the stars, he tells the days
He sees the Moon tear its light onto the land
Tracking the Gods, he thinks.
For the streams he steps, and to the earth he takes his songs.

I can't have beer in the US, but is it that most/all of those words are Germanic derived? It just really struck me when I saw wayfarer, walds, and angst, given I hardly ever see them used (and I didn't even know "wald" was in English). So is it that?
I have another guess, though. Is it that each stanza has the same sentence structures?
Well, that was a thing.

Yep! All Germanic (and 'wold' is the modern form, but I think 'wald' sounds better :P). And you're also correct about the structure.

Well if we ever meet, I'll buy you some kind of beverage :)

Nope, though they share the same PIE root. English gets 'anguish' from Latin.

#20 for National Poetry Writing Month, using a prompt

I am the pencil that you use to practice your shading techniques. I am a fake quill pen you buy at the gift shop in Washington D.C. I am the lunar calendar that guides and moves the cultures on Earth. I am the webcam that is embarrassed to watch you make your amateur porn. I am a username that is exactly 6 characters long and fulfills all the special requirements. I am a rotary telephone whose numbers are worn away by careless strokes of fingers. I am a Zack Morris phone left decaying in the attic in a small house in the bad part of town. I am a newly restored Trans-Am refitted with a killer sound system. I am the keypad on an ATM at a small town casino, facilitating the death of a human being. I am a messaging app that boasts all new features including a new chat smiley interface. I am a messenger bag that your girlfriend took with her to Venice and lost on a Gondola ride while you were trying to put the moves on her. I am the loose change you cram into the vending machine to get a quick snack while you finish your final paper. I am a colored pencil - carmine - the kind you don’t need to press firmly to the paper to get the right amount of color. I am the bathroom print used to make life just a little more bearable. I am a Target desk that is easy to put together but impossible to move when your apartment lease ends. I am the hardwood cherry floor that came with the house but you want gutted because I clash with the sculptures you made in your overpriced art and wine class. I am the diaper disposal unit you haven’t seen because the baby shower was cancelled. I am a list of names you repeat in your head over and over so you don’t forget.

Prompt:
What kind of a pencil are you?
What kind of a pen are you?
What kind of a calendar are you?
What kind of a webcam are you?
What kind of a username are you?
What kind of a telephone are you?
What kind of a Zack Morris phone are you?
What kind of a Trans-Am are you?
What kind a keypad are you?
What kind of a messaging app are you?
What kind of a messenger bag are you?
What kind of loose change are you?
What kind of a colored pencil are you?
What kind of a bathroom print are you?
What kind of a desk are you?
What kind of a hardwood cherry floor are you?
What kind of a diaper disposal unit are you?
What kind of a kind of list are you?

Ooh, ooh, let me try! :)

Also, that' an oddly specific set of prompts, but I'll just ignore that.

I am the pencil that you use for pointless shapes you'll throw away anyway. I am the pen that often fails to leave ink on the page. I am the mayan calendar that drives people to both inspiration and madness. I am the webcam that never gets used. I am a username that's long and that most people don't get the joke for. I am a cellphone, every day further outdated. I am a Zack Morris phone that is a Zack Morris phone. Same for the Trans-am (yes, the Trans-am is a Zack Morris phone). I am the keypad on a Windows Surface, forever striving for greatness but always stuck with the out-of-touch and the hipsters. I am a messaging app that's basically the same as every other messaging app. I am a messenger bag that burst open when someone tried to cram too much crap into it. I am the loose change they won't ever accept at the bank. I am a colored pencil that is a Zack Morris phone. I am the bathroom print that no matter how hard you look on Google, you can't find what a bathroom print is. I am an IKEA desk that is easy to put together even if you don't know who Kärpågör is or how to understand Swedish. I am the hardwood cherry floor that is a Zack Morris phone. I am the diaper disposal unit that was purposefully defective as part of a conspiracy to get the company president to resign in order for him to appear at a campaign event to trip over the candidate, thus causing a scandal. I am a list of lists, creating listception. I am a water buffalo, because why not? I am that one creepy guy who follows you everywhere because he's not sure where you got that scarf. I am a person that observes that a hardwood cherry floor is really specific already without being able to see the meaning behind it. I am the Chuck Norris that is a Zack Morris phone. I am the commenter who went waaaayyy off-script. I am the keymaster. I am the guy in the middle of the street when the band was playing that one day. I am the song never sung. I am the bell never rung. I would like it in a box. I would like it with a fox. I am the library machine. I am the much-too-trusting dean. I am...
some guy in Denver.
Well, that was a thing.

Please consult http://www.archive.org/stream/walde/Walde#page/n79/mode/1up: angor.
Old High German: angust > New High German: die Angst.
