I'm currently reading Shell Shaker by LeAnne Howe, which starts with a historical vignette narrated by a Choctaw woman who has just recovered from smallpox.

The last thing you read with an indigenous narrator.

പോടുങ്കമ്മാ ഓട്ട് [ˈpoːɖʊŋgəmmaː ˈoːʈɯ], a short story from a novel called Sangathi (സംഗതി [səŋˈgəd̪i]) written by an Adivasi writer named Pama (പാമ [ˈpaːma]) in her language variety in an issue of the Malayalam literary magazine Mathrubhumi

The last thing you read in which one of the characters was a teacher.

Let's say "Harry Potter és a félvér herceg" => Harry Potter and the half-blood Prince in Hungarian 8-)

The last thing you read that has been written especially for you.

The note on a card one of my co-workers wrote me when my contract extension ended, unless you count forum posts, e-mails, the notes my dad leaves me, or presumably an oddly flattering Wikipedia edit (in chronological order starting from the most recent).

The last thing you read about slavery.

I'm not sure if was the last literally but it was a shocking short story by Machado de Assis about a slave hunter, Pai contra Mãe.

The last thing you read about balloons.

Well, Unnikuttante Lokam (ഉണ്ണിക്കുട്ടന്റെ ലോകം) by Nandanar, the first Malayalam novel I ever read, does begin with a dream involving balloons. If it has to focus on the balloons in some way, then I guess some part of The Road to Kitty Hawk by Valerie Moolman.

The last thing you read, in whole or in part, that was all Greek to you (either literally or figuratively!).

At lunchtime I was reading the actual Bible in actual Greek, it had lots of 'άγγελος του κυρίου'!

The last thing you read again for the first time since your childhood.

If we're counting books we read in part, then Teach Yourself Greek by Aristarhos Matsukas. If we're only counting books I read in full, then probably The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver.

The last thing you read in a language you want to improve your skills in.

A letter in Hungarian from my Hungarian teacher :D

The last thing you read you don't understand why an editor chose to publish, because it's real crap.

Probably some dumb-ass joke in an issue of Balamithram, very likely the first children's magazine in Malayalam, edited and published by my grandmother

The last language-learning book you read in its entirety without ever bending the cover.

I never bend the covers of books if I can help it.

The last thing you read which ended on a cliffhanger.

Not sure if it could be considered a true cliffhanger but The Telling by U. K. Le Guin is the first thing that comes to my mind.

The last thing you read where the protagonist was not white cis het.

That would be the last thing I read that had a protagonist at all because it was in Malayalam. :D Specifically, it was an article (about a real-life incident) in a very old issue of the Mathrubhumi weekly magazine called മാളത്തിലെ ആ പെൺകുട്ടി! [ˈmaːɭət̪ɪle jaː ˈpɛɳgʊʈi] 'that girl in the den!'.

The last thing you read in which a child lost their parents.

 did you expect anything else than Harry Potter?
So now for me: Harry Potter și prizonierul din Azkaban (Romanian)

The last thing you read where the title is one word only.

Hurramabad («Хуррамабад») by Andrei Volos. I just finished it last night. The name literally means "happy abode" in Persian.

The last thing you read that made you smile.

I didn't expect anything at all!

വേരില്ലാകാലത്ത് [ʋeːɾɪlˈlaːgaːlət̪ɯ] 'In an Age With No Roots', a short story by some kid whose name I don't remember and don't feel like looking up right now in one of the weekly issues of Mathrubhumi

The last absurdist thing you read.

Than 1 hour of cycling can make you burn up to 300 calories.

The last thing you hadn't had the chance to finish reading before someone suddenly took it away from you.

I guess I could see how you'd find that absurd, but I'm not sure it's absurdist. :hmm:

Probably some issue of Time magazine a few years ago - I don't remember which one

The last Wikipedia article you read even a little bit of. :P

Yentl (film). I didn't know it existed, it was the only female director to win a Golden Globe.

The last thing you read with a tortoise.

You mean the last thing I read with a tortoise in it? That would probably be a Panchatantra story about four friends (a deer, a crow, a mouse/rat, and a tortoise).

The last thing you read about (an) illness(es).
