I think that means PublishAmerica/America Star Books is a so-called "free publisher" that he is particularly disappointed with.

Sure when that's free, you get what you should get for free.
That's why self-publishing is the best solution. You can choose the font, the front and back cover with your own image... And you can decide to sell it at a very low price if you want to get known :D

Oh, that "you" wasn't in reference to you :P rather meant to imply that PublishAmerica (and the various aliases under which it has operated) is probably the shittiest literary publisher in history.

It's not ever going to be published or anything, but I'm writing a min-four paged narrative for English (so, I'll be marked on it, but it's the perfect excuse and motivation for me to actually start writing this idea), and I'm going along with my polar bear from the Yukon wants to go Iceland idea  I've only gotten one full page and a paragraph done, and Hnot, the polar bear, has only gotten to one of the many islands of the Northwest Territories he needs to traverse to get to Greenland, but I would say it's coming along nicely. Due in two days, so gotta whip up three more pages by the end of tomorrow night. I hope one day I can return to this and expand it into a fair-sized short story, if not a small novel. Them being polar bears, I haven't really been incorporating dialogue into the story, but I don't want to get too fantastical and make it so they can talk. If there'll be anything like dialogue, it'll just be Hnot's thoughts.

If anyone comes from here, what is the word in English to mention a story that has more than one book?

3 books: a trilogy, 3 episodes... ? Or is there another word better than "episode" (that makes me think of Dallas épisodes)

X books: a saga, X épisodes, X stories, X books... ? :hmm:

AFAIK you can just add numbers before "logy":

Tetralogy
Pentalogy
Hexalogy

etc :D but I don't know the general term for any amount of books

Thanks Uzferry and IpseDixit :D
Then how do you call every book individually that is part of a saga (or a serie) ?

As in French, we have :
Harry Potter saga, "tome 1" (Harry Potter and the Philosopher's stone)
Harry Potter saga, "tome 2" (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets)
etc...

how do you name this notion of "tome" ?

I'm pretty sure you can say either "book" or "volume". I would wait for a native-speaker to answer if you want to be 100% sure, though. And btw, I reckon you'd have more chances to get an answer in the English subforum rather than in here.

You'd just say "book". To number them, you can go with either "book 1" or "the first book". "Volume" is more a word you'd use for a book in a reference series, like an encyclopedia or a dictionary. And since the word exists in English, "tome" is usually used as a more formal/literary synonym for "book". It implies the book is large and scholarly.

I wrote this short story in Malayalam almost a month ago. I've included it below with an IPA transcription and a translation into English:

And another one with narration in Latin and dialog in Portuguese, Serbian, Russian, Turkish, and Hindi/Urdu. I've included translations for all of that and an IPA translation for the Hindi/Urdu part as well:

On the verge of finishing my latest! It's my second book of sci-fi, but much more political than the 1st sci-fi I wrote (and it's over 200 A4 pages, about 115 000 words).

The following inspired me:
- Handmaid's tale
- The current crisis of Migrants in Southern Europe
- Wirephoto (Belinograph)
- Thistle (yes, they do eat that to survive)(no, no Scottish story!)
- my discovering of motorbike riding :partyhat:
I can't wait until I publish (auto-publish) the 1st version :silly:

I made this one - nearly nothing - to contribute

Nadar no nada eu nadaria
- da vida, toada dada à dúvida,
Nadar no nada eu nadaria.

(o nada é dado doido,
a vida vida e não o nada, doída.)

Do nada não nadar,
do ar,
da vida...
Diria:
Divino dado doando
dádiva ou dano,
dano ou dádiva

todavia...

Nadar no nada eu nadaria,
no nado doido,
e de era dura
dera odara!
e daria...

Nadar no nada eu nadaria
e dera odara e ávida daria...
Nadar no nada eu nadaria
Nadar no nada eu nadaria
E ávida e dourada e áurea
odara dera era e dara...
Nadar no nada eu nadaria...
Nadar no nada eu nadaria
Nadar no nada...
e ávid'áurea era dourada
e odara dera
e duraria!
no nado doido
dando o dado doida
era todo dia
adoraria
odara era
(e rara!)
e vida.

Translation:

From graceful springs I would
swim in the nothing
Could the nothing
be fine and pleasure

For the life's dice
frequently swings
between despair
and doubtful nothing.

I used to write some fanficiton when I was a kid. Mostly of the Ninja Turtles. It was bad, but I had fun with it and I was 13 anyway. Ofc it's not like it was Bram Stoker's Dracula

I have an ongoing TMNT fic I started in like 2014, but haven't updated it since like 2017. I need to go back to it someday.

I've also written or occasionally write short stories I don't share. They're more self-insert type of stories and the MC is based on myself loosely and his friends on people I know and other fictional characters. Maybe I'll share them someday since stories are meant to be shared.

I guess I never mentioned this before in this thread because I kept talking about all the time back when I last posted in this thread anyway, but I edited, reorganized, and partly translated my grandfather's World War II memoirs (most of it is in Malayalam, but there are parts in English as well).

So I wrote a quite emotionally heavy poem;

The mosque questions my faith
Framing my way as a disgrace
'You’re not really muslim’ - they say
(Kafir!)
Dutch politics questions my face
Blaming everything on my race
'You’re not really Dutch’- they say
(Kutmarokkaan!)
Morocco questions my embrace
Claiming I'm from the wrong place
'You’re not really Moroccan’ - they say
(Holanda!)

If nothing about me is real
whose emptiness is it I feel
‘Help me find my reality’ - I pray
(Who am I?)
But I don’t need this anxiety
I am not defined by society
‘I’m really me entirely’ - I say

I love your poem. Thanks for writing and sharing it! I can even relate to it on a personal level to some extent. :)
