Hi everyone,

Here is the place for english people to learn/improve their french. Over the next few weeks, I will be developing some resources over on the "Free Language Resources" section of unilang, but first I want to see who we've got so that I can tailor the course to you.

So how about we all start off with a little self-introduction, saying how much we know and what we want to gain from the course?

Here's mine:-
I am semi-fluent in french, and a Native English Speaker. I've been learning french for around 5 years now. I want to perfect my fluency, and I also want to try to pass my knowledge on to others.

I look forward to hearing you all!

I had French for 4 years as second foreign language in school, but we didn't learn much (the teacher is known for teaching almost nothing) and it's been a few years since I had my last French lesson. Thus I managed to have good marks without being able to speak French...
I used to dislike the French language, but I think I might try to learn it again.
I can't judge really judge my French level, since I can understand it much better than I speak it.

I also had French for 4 years at school, until I was 16. After that I didn't do much with it until I was 21. I bought a french learning book and picked it up again. Now I'm fairly familiar with the grammar, but the basic thing I lack is practice.. :(

I've studied French in my own since the beginning of this year and got a nice result. lemme tell you:

When I came to Belo Horizonte, where I live now, and started the univ, i decided to take a French course offered by the univ...It's cheap and very good. Then I chose to make a level test, as I supposed I already knew how to pronounce the letters and how to sing "Ne me quitte pas" (Heh! Every French course here has to start with "Ne me quitte pas", as the song was the theme of a very good and well-known TV series that was shown about two years ago). Then I answered the text and was sent to the level III, out of IV!!! (And the last, if we consider that there's no level IV class yet as the course is new). Then i realized I can already read French well, and understand a text, or even read a book (I'm studyng Japanese through a book from Assimil, Le Japonais sans peine). I've chose to start with the level II in this real class, as there's no level III clases on saturday, and, as the level III class was too small, too few students, I would have to pay more...But now I can finnish the French course at the end of the next year and add one more language to my curriculum! And can officialy start German, or Italian, or Japanese ('coz unilangly I've been studying all these languages, more or less, for several months).
i had my first class last saturday, my teacher is Senegalese, and it seems he has a kind of central-french accent, but i'm trying to make me sound parisian, anyways. I'm so excited with the French language, as I could get to a reading-level so fast! When I realized, I could already read French! I can't say many conversational things myself, but I plan to work with this.
Well, that's the history of my life! Hope I can do quite well with French, I have everything to make it my 3rd foreign language (after English and Spanish, of course for a Brazilian). Hope we can learn a lot here, everybody!

Aha - the famous "franglais" pops up again.

Or in complete english:-

"I have been learning french for 6 yers, but it's terrible, especially my writing skills; so I'd love to join in this project. It would be nice to have some practice (at last!)

Or, as I would translate it (closer to the original ):

Jean-Luc
