שלום

Another Hebrew Study group is forming!

This time it's for Biblical Hebrew, and those that have expressed their interest so far would like to go through Introduction to Biblical Hebrew by Lambdin.

Anyone is free to join at any time! :)

kevin, do you have any previous experience with (Biblical) Hebrew?

That's an excellent question, as it'll set our pace.

I did two semesters of an evening course in Modern Hebrew because I just couldn't resist when it was right in the next village, but it moved very slowly, so what I have is minimal.

Do you think two lessons would work, or is that too much for you?

Two lessons a week, you mean?

Maybe I could use this thread to try and help you through Ex. 3:8-14?

I think only one lesson per week would be more realistic for me to do consistently. But I don't want to hold you up, so if you think that's too slow, maybe it would be better for me to go on my own.

I think 1 lesson per week is ok for me.

Ok, I apologise for not making it clearer when we would start. We're officially starting, and, given that Sunday is only a few days away, we can bleed over into next Sunday (meaning this first week could potentially end up being 9 days long). I'll have kevin decide, as he's the least experienced out of us all.

On a personal note, I'll say that I am using this group as a once a week review session, and may end up dropping off some weeks, but I will do my best to stay consistently active here as part of the group.

So at least for this first week I'll take the role Vijay has in Irish and post some exercises. At first sight they seem to be the same between the German and the English edition, so that's good because I prefer using the book.

Kind of shocking how long it took to write down this little, but it's very obvious that I need more practice with typing Hebrew (especially with vowels, which I never typed before).

I'm going to take advantage of the fact that kevin used spoil tags and try to write out the answers to the exercises for Lesson 1, too, even though I've already looked at the answers before and probably haven't read the lesson carefully enough. :silly:

Yay! I finally did it! :partyhat:

So, are we working on lesson 2 or 3 this week?

I also find it amusing you both did the English to Hebrew exercises. I usually skip those. :P

Lesson 2 I think.

And I would say that translating into the target language is actually the most useful type of exercise because only then you become aware of all the details that you can just skip over in the other direction as long as you understand the meaning.

That might very well be the case.

But details, shmetails. :silly:

Yeah, in fact, I just finished Lesson 2 (at the end of this post, of course).

I feel like you were trying to make some sort of point in the context of this thread, but I have no idea what it is. :P

Anyhoo:
