I decided to do the exercises. I'll include the solution surrounded by spoil tags in case anyone else is interested in trying them out later or something. I'm skipping Exercise 3 because I have no idea what they're looking for there.

Well, it does at least mention the latter, too, but I was wondering what the difference was. Now I know! Thanks! :D

Lesson 47. I am going very slowly. I don’t know what to do to make the language more alive for me. :hmm:

Very true.

I'd hate to make assumptions, but I get the general impression that aside from our few Brazilian and Australian friends, the vast majority of us don't.

I'm not on summer mode or anything; I just got sidetracked last week.

So should I (try to) keep doing this thing I've been doing of posting one chapter a week each of Biblical and Modern Hebrew? Does anybody find this helpful?

I don't know. I am still following the book, but I am not doing the exercises. I am just trying to remember the vocabulary, which is already quite difficult :hmm:

In that case, maybe it might be more productive to talk about what specific vocabulary you're having trouble learning, and then maybe I can see whether I can try to help you with that? :)

It’s more an internal process, you know. Because I am still at a beginner level I need some time to acquire and recognise the words when I listen to them. For the moment I am learning the grammar basis and some basic vocabulary. But the biggest work is actually trying to understand the language when I listen to it. I suppose it’s still too early :hmm:

I've been adding all the words in the book to an Anki deck. I have around 1,300 cards at the moment. But I've been going through the lessons at a much slower place than you, so memorization isn't that hard. The most difficult thing about Hebrew for me is the verb system.

For me, conjugation of verbs is kind of alike to Arabic. To remember the different tenses I say: Present tense is the radical with the terminations, past tense is similar to Arabic past tense, and futur is similar to Arabic present tense.

Congratulations! :)

Antea, do you by any chance find it helpful to look up the etymologies of words? Or maybe it's just a matter of going slower; I noticed that Chapter 2 of Colloquial Hebrew doesn't include all that much vocabulary I'm unfamiliar with, so that's helpful. :P

I decided to go ahead and do Chapter 3 of Colloquial Hebrew, too (I haven't checked my answers too carefully):

Halfway through Pimsleur Hebrew III! It seems to teach a lot of things that turn out to be outdated (or sometimes even just incorrect) but I'm sticking with it since it's also really good for getting pronunciation and intonation right.
Please correct my mistakes in any language.

Congratulations! :)

OK, at this point, I don't think I'm even going to bother checking my answers for the exercises anymore. I'm finding that I keep making too many minor mistakes with Hebrew, and checking them later takes way too much time. The same goes for the Biblical Hebrew exercises I've been doing.

Anyway, here are my answers for Chapter 4:
