Ulpan

Postby Lemanensis » 2015-06-21, 21:09

Hi guys

I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has experience of doing a one-month ulpan in Israel. I'm looking closely at various options and Haifa university has two one-month ulpans - one in Jan-Feb (brrr) and the other in the summer (phew). I've been thinking that having a specific goal in mind in a few months will give my motivation a boost.

I'd appreciate any thoughts about this or hearing from anyone with experience of a short-term ulpan.
Thanks :D

I don't have any experience as of yet, but if things go according to plan, me and my cousin might be doing an Ulpan next summer. It is actually the University of Haifa that he's been looking at. (I'm letting him get the info and plan this, as he came up with the idea and invited me along.)

אהלן!
Do you mean summer 2016? If so, I might just be giving you advice. I'm considering the winter 2016 ulpan, and that's in Jan-February. :)

Yes, summer 2016. We were considering the winter session, but we were concerned about having enough money saved up to go. Nothing is concrete at the moment for us though.

If so, I might just be giving you advice.

Yeah, that you might.

You do realise they won't speak Biblical Hebrew, though, don't you?

It is rumored some Israeli people love the summer, but you never meet them in real life.
Perhaps because most of them are held in asylums.

What I am trying to say is, reconsider coming here on summer (in particular July-August) if you plan to spend any amount of time outdoors. It is hellish.

I kinda figured that. It's more or less our availability though. But we might try for the winter session, but I'm not sure if that would work out. As I said before, it's in the idea phase right now.

My first trip to Israel was in August. It was so hot that I was destroyed. I had to spend every afternoon indoors sleeping.

Kind of like the weather we've got not in Switzerland (37-38C) 8-) but with a sea breeze now and again.
