Learning the Korean alphabet - new lesson!

For those using my course at http://www.learnlangs.com/RWP/Korean to learn Hangul, I'd like to announce that I just published lesson 5! Lesson 6, which should be ready shortly, will complete the course, but after lesson 5 you can already read almost all Korean.

By the way, I'm still looking for native speakers who would be ready to make more recordings to go with the course...

Hello!

First, thanks a lot for your efforts, that site is sooo helpful!

As it was mentioned there, Korean alphabet is much easier than it seems - at least that's my impression after reading your lessons.

I'd like to be able at least to read/write in Korean script. Here's my first question:

Would the name Bartek [bartek] (my son who's a Taekwon-Do adept) look something like:

발텤?

or would it be necessary to make it into 3 syllables (I guess that's how it works for most of the Western names transcribed into Korean):

바르텤?

Thank you so much for this. The Korean alphabet doesn't look as impenetrable than at first glance.

Enjoying these lessons very much!

Although I don't know how helpful this might be, this is a native recording for the lessons, by noir :) All complete syllables/words represented in the lessons one to five are included. (Occasionally I feel like doing something as a forum mod)

Most of Junesun's examples involve transcription of foreign names, and I tried not to reproduce the English pronunciation and stick to the Hangul there. As a result, the accent presented happens to be a Seoulite-North American. ;)

Noir, may I use these on the site?

My original intention was to have actual Korean words to illustrate the pronunciation, also for additional practice of reading. However, I have been unable to get a hold of somebody to suggest and record them until now.

Definately yes.

If you continue with the lessons, I will provide the recordings for the rest as well.

Awesome! :D

There's only one lesson missing, on diphthongs and doubled consonants. I've had trouble finding example words for it, and then when I had it written my hard disk failed... hoping to upload it this week now, because my next project is Arabic and then Hebrew.

Why not 바르텍? :hmm: Or aren't final -k's pronounced (I think "hanguk" sounds like "hangu" unless there's a word following it)

Aishhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I've been watching a Korean show for about two/three weeks now and I am itching to learn some Korean! I've done the first lesson on the site and I must say that it is well written and quite fun! I'm going to go eat a 바나나 and feel good about what I've learnt so far! ;)

Aaah I remember we had this Korean channel for quite a few years. And they practically had everything on it. I miss it terribly. It's part of the reason I fell in love with K- POP.

BoA ( 보아 ) is my favorite Korean singer.
