Hangul's other languages?

Postby hindupridemn » 2020-04-01, 23:15

Are there any languages other than Korean (and Jeju) that use the Hangul script, or have in the past?

I present you Cia-Cia, an Austronesian language spoken in the town of Bau-Bau on the island of Buton, whose speakers, for some reason, has decided to use Hangıl to write their language:

This 2020 clip seems to confirm the movement is still active.

tl;dr is that Hunminjeongeum Institute basically slapped them with money. They expected it'd lead to more economic cooperation between the city of Bau-Bau and Korea, it didn't work out very well. Still there's a volunteer teacher active in a Cia-Cia village (the man in the interview) and a couple of local teachers who teach Hangulized Cia-Cia and Korean itself.
